No one would begrudge Sam Thomas a good day and he can make a winning start courtesy of Lingfield winner, CHARITY LANE. The gelding made a pleasing hurdling debut in heavy ground when outpointing Helpston, who franked the form with a convincing victory at Leicester last Sunday. Venetia Williams' French import, Pipo De Re, made a satisfactory start when fourth at Uttoxeter over 2m and should appreciate today's extra yardage. Picaroon is an interesting Irish import for the in-form Tim Vaughan.

This trip will take some getting on heavy ground but WICHITA LINEMAN has a hurdles verdict over Tidal Bay under such conditions and has taken well to the larger obstacles. He outbattled West End Rocker at Chepstow before finishing a respectable 7 lengths second to Lodge Lane at Exeter, to whom he was conceding 6lb. Pancake was 7 lengths further back and placings should be confirmed on the same terms. Nakai, a fine second to Duc De Regniere over timber last time, is a fascinating chasing debutant.

Gullible Gordon was backed as if defeat was impossible on his seasonal reappearance at Exeter but faded away tamely in the home straight. However, if rediscovering his useful hurdling form of the previous campaign, he would go very close, although he is unproven on ground this heavy. So it might be worth chancing KAYF ARAMIS, a thoroughly genuine stayer on the level and steadily improving over timber. Faneuil Hall showed promise on his hurdling debut here and can improve again and take a hand.
