Lieutenant Miller has improved on the level this summer, finishing third in the Cesarewitch last time, and could prove well treated on his return to hurdling. He takes on a number of unexposed sorts here, though, including SAUSALITO SUNRISE. Philip Hobbs' charge had two subsequent winners behind when third in a decent novice hurdle at Ascot and could prove nicely handicapped. Jojabean showed plenty of determination to score at Fontwell and is worth another try in handicaps, while Pay The King struggled in heavy ground when last seen at Newbury but his previous form on a sounder surface gives him claims.

THE LIQUIDATOR was a class act in NH Flat races last season, finishing fourth in the Champion Bumper before grabbing a Grade 1 prize at the Punchestown Festival. The ease in which he landed a Carlisle event on his reappearance suggests he could take high rank among novice hurdlers this term so he should be up to winning this. Lac Fontana has plenty of experience over timber and ran out a convincing scorer here last month, while Sea Lord has been making hay over the summer and carried on in the winning vein in a Listed event at Kempton. Minellaforleisure won easily at Wincanton and cannot be dismissed either.

Paul Nicholls has won four of the last five renewals of this race and can strike again courtesy of DODGING BULLETS. Third in last year's Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, he showed a tendency to jump left on his chasing debut at the Sunbury track, so should be happier going this way round. Raya Star was one place ahead of the selection in the Christmas Hurdle but was less impressive on his fencing bow at Uttoxeter, so a greater threat could be Ted Veale, who won the County Hurdle on his last visit here and was in sparkling form on the Flat this summer.
