It is tough to escape the appeal of the highly-touted La Vaticane, who held an entry in the Paddy Power Gold Cup and wasn't disgraced behind the high-class Theinval on his British hurdling debut in March. He has experience over fences from his time in France and warrants the utmost respect, but does concede match-fitness to the unexposed MINELLA PRESENT, who makes his first start in handicap company and might be worth a chance at the forecast prices. The Clock Leary has gone well when fresh in the past and is respected, along with the dropped-in-trip Lough Kent.

This contest has been won by some smart sorts over the years, and there's little doubt at this stage that PENGLAI PAVILION looks destined to take high rank in the novice hurdling division over the next few months. A talented horse on the level, he has taken to his new discipline like a duck to water, winning easily over course and distance three weeks ago, and he is strongly fancied to extend his winning sequence here. Alcala and Shantou Village delivered in style at Worcester and Carlisle respectively, but the chief threat may come from Champers On Ice, who scored narrowly at Punchestown on his Rules debut and receives weight all round on his reappearance.
