It may pay to stick with LORD VILLEZ here. After a string of near-misses, he scored nicely over 2m4f here last month and, although he's up 5lb today, could follow up now he's found out how to get his head in front. Although he disappointed last time and unseated his rider on his chasing debut at Hexham, Indian Groom can be given every chance here on his fine second over C&D two starts ago. Decipher, a decent sort on the Flat, has shown little in six runs over hurdles but might go better first time over fences.
This looks a match between Indian Groom and Lord Villez, with preference for the former in receipt of 7 lb.

The veteran SHREWD INVESTOR hasn't won for a long time and is not the most consistent nowadays but has twice finished second recently and is worth giving another chance today. He's 2lb lower than his best winning mark and this slight step up in trip should be in his favour. Bayfirth has shown ability over hurdles and could go well first time over fences but has been off the track for more than two years. Almond Court fell over hurdles last time out but might be given a chance on the pick of her chasing form.
All come with risks attached. Shrewd Investor should go close judged on his recent Newcastle second, but his unreliability is part of his make-up and course-specialist Teenando could prove a better option.

This should go the way of MONTOYA'S SON, who impressed when a close second over 2m5f at Hexham this month on his chasing debut. He's entitled to benefit for the experience and has very little extra to find to land this. Big Burrows has lost his way this year but can be given a chance on his win over fences at Sedgefield last May, while Currahee and Lord Samposin has proved consistent sorts over timber but need to find another gear over the bigger obstacles.
It will be more than a little disappointing were Montoya's Son not to get off the mark at the second attempt over fences. Currahee is a tentative pick for the forecast.

In an open contest, it could pay to stick with MAGIC SKY, who returned to form with a narrow win over 3m at Ascot this month. He's up 6lb as a result but has scored off higher marks in the past and can follow up, dropped in class today. Storymaker hasn't proved the most consistent recently but was a good third off this mark over 2m5f at Bangor last time and must be given a chance on that effort. Dark Ben and Acrai Rua are others to consider.
Question marks against several here on account of the ground, but not for Go Silver Bullet, who can put a poor hurdles run behind him. Magic Sky is in good heart, whilst Sheriff Hutton drops in class and merits respect.

It's taken NICKY TAM a while to get to grips with the chasing game but the penny seems to have dropped and he broke his duck in some style over 3m1f at Hexham. He's up 5lb in the ratings but there could be more to come and he's taken to follow up. Final Veto landed a beginners' chase over 3m1f at Hexham in game style but has a lot more to do off this handicap mark, while Dollar Mick looks flattered by his form figures but appears to have been given a chance here by the handicapper.
Last-time-out Hexham winners Final Veto and Nicky Tam look the pair to concentrate on, with narrow preference for the latter.

At the start of the season, Blackpool Billy looked a good chasing prospect but it's a brave man who would back him here after a string of disappointing efforts, including twice refusing to race. Carrietau disappointed last time out when pulled up at Kelso but won off a 5lb higher mark at the same track a year ago and has claims on that effort. SAMIZDAT was beaten when falling at Sedgefield last month but isn't badly weighted on his winning chase form and looks worth supporting here.
It's hard to be positive about any of the field, and Carrietau is only a very tentative selection after pulling up last time. Chase debutant Samizdat looks the best alternative.

After landing a double last summer, a fall at Haydock in February seemed to knock ARDNACLANCY'S confidence but he's finding his feet again, just going down a neck at Hexham last time. He can go one better today in this company. Abragante was a Listed chase winner back in 2007 but missed the whole of last year and has looked a shadow of his former self in two runs in this grade this year. Aggie's Lad has won twice over fences in better races than this but needs to raise his game after a string of poor efforts this season.
The reliable Ardnaclancy finished in front of Abragante and Aggie's Lad on his most recent outing at Hexham and there is little reason to think he won't confirm that form.
