HI NOTE has performed consistently well under both codes this summer and gained a comfortable victory at Warwick this week on good to firm ground. This is a totally different test over further but she's handled ground with plenty of cut over timber and can supplement recent gains. Captain Oats, consistent at a modest level, could be dangerous if seeing out his first attempt at this trip, likewise Asterales. Gordon Flash is a possible improver for Charles Hills but Eastern Magic looks the prime danger having obliged over C&D last time, although the ground is a concern.

Watch out for: Eastern Magic (1)

Hi Note still has scope for improvement in this sphere based on her hurdles form and looks a good bet to follow up her Warwick win earlier this week. Recent C&D winner Eastern Magic and Captain Oats are the chief threats.

Milton Bradley makes life confusing by firing three arrows at the target, all of whom harbour acceptable claims with Emiratesdotcom looking the best value of the trio off bottom weight. However, SCHOOL FEES makes greater appeal having scored here in mid-July in a competitive contest. All her best form has been delivered on ground with some cut at least and she remains feasibly treated. O'Gorman rates the likeliest threat as he too is proven on the ground and has a profile this summer suggesting that a handicap of this nature lies well within his capabilities.

An open event in which several hold decent claims. Marginal preference is for Fanrouge, who has slipped to her last winning mark and clearly wasn't right last time. Valmina, who has put up 2 good efforts in defeat recently and boasts previous winning C&D form, and Prime Exhibit, who steps back into handicap company off a career-low mark, are others to consider.

LIBER may have been turned over when 1/4 favourite on his penultimate outing at Musselburgh but he scored here the time before in comfortable fashion and, more importantly, ran a highly creditable race when fourth at York's Ebor meeting in a very competitive sales race. He handles any ground and should be able to concede the weight to land a third success of the campaign. King Of Kudos should improve for his Newmarket debut but the Harris-trained pair look more obvious dangers with Kodatish, a course winner, preferred to Windforpower for the runner-up spot.

Watch out for: Kodatish (2)

Liber has disappointed under similar circumstances in the past, but he looks to have been found another decent opportunity and ought to make the most of it. Kodatish may be the one to follow him home.

A good turnout which REX IMPERATOR should find more to his liking than when asked to tote top-weight against his elders in a highly competitive sprint that opened the recent Ebor Festival. He may have finished 11th of 19 that day but was only beaten just over three lengths and is narrowly preferred to Night Carnation. The latter has generally found life tougher this season whilst still running well in top-quality contests and was only just beaten by Van Ellis in Listed grade last time. Ballesteros likes this ground and, back from a nice break, represents a danger to all.

We almost certainly haven't seen the best of Rex Imperator yet, but likely softish ground is a slight unknown and Ballesteros, who is proven under the conditions, is perhaps a more solid option. Night Carnation will also be thereabouts if building on last month's Chester second.

I See You is on the upgrade and inhabits the bottom perch but has yet to operate on soft ground and is reluctantly passed over. Rebecca Romero scored here in midsummer but needs everything to drop her way and all four career wins have been delivered with Richard Hughes on board. She'll go well if Eddie Ahern can work the oracle, but CATS EYES is possibly a safer option. The ground is a concern but the Cowell-trained filly has already landed four victories this year, two of which have been here. Stakes should remain conservative due to those ground issues though.

A number in with decent chances, though it may pay to side with Cats Eyes who boasts a good strike-rate in her short career to date and may yet have more to offer back against her own sex. A decent field with the progressive THREE BARDS taken to make the journey to the west country from Middleham worthwhile. Like many stable inmates, he's improved throughout the season until stalling somewhat the last twice. However, he wasn't disgraced on either occasion and remains on a good mark. As with many of these, the ground is an unknown and that should be factored into the equation. Mossbrae is totally unexposed and the market should indicate stable expectations for the Selkirk gelding, whilst Spartan Spirit, also unproven on soft, and course winner Sula Two, are also respected.

Top Tip: Three Bards (5)
Watch out for: Mossbrae (6)

Spartan Spirit has been knocking on the door the last twice and looks sure to make a bold bid to go one better, despite his quirks. Hanoverian Baron is potentially too well handicapped to ignore despite his lack of recent form, whilst Mossbrae should have more to offer now handicapping over this longer distance.
