A tricky maiden to kick things off, in which FRANKIE'S PROMISE gets the tentative vote. A dual bumper winner last season, he was well fancied when getting no further than the second obstacle on his hurdling debut at Kelso two weeks ago and hopefully he will have learnt a thing or two in the schooling ring since. Apollo Eleven faces an easier assignment than when third at Cheltenham last month and he should give a good account, while Hallmark Star and Redpender are others to note.

Top Tip: Frankie's Promise (7)
Watch out for: Apollo Eleven (1)

Hallmark Star should run his race once again and can go close, while Frankie's Promise has the bumper form to go very well if he can brush up his hurdling. Apollo Eleven ran well when third at Cheltenham last time, however, and he is marginally preferred with the prospect of further improvement in him.

SPITFIRE ACE turned in a good performance over the larger obstacles last month, and if that galvanises him for his return to hurdles, he looks the one to side with. Ballycool was a beaten favourite when seven lengths adrift of that rival in fifth there and can be on the premises, while Laybach was well-backed at Kelso recently, and possibly squandered her chances by racing keenly, so could be worth another try. Alexander Oats completes the shortlist having won a novice chase over course and distance a few years ago.

A useful bumper/hurdle performer, he made just about the perfect start to his chasing career when landing a Kelso novices' event two weeks ago and he potentially looks a lot better than this opening mark of 132. Also to his advantage is that he receives 4lb off his main rival Sivola De Sivola, who is very good on his day but made heavy weather of beating a 125-rated opponent at Ffos Las most recently, while Stream Of Whiskey would need to step up on his Hexham success.

Watch out for: Sivola De Sivola (1)

Green Flag was a likeable hurdler and he made a pleasing start over fences in what looked a strong novice chase at Kelso last month. He remains open to further improvement over fences and can follow up at the main expense of Sivola de Sivola and Streams of Whiskey.

UBALTIQUE rattled the crossbar when last sighted over fences in May, but prior to that he had acquitted himself well over the smaller obstacles, including when narrowly beaten into second racing off the same mark as he does today. He looks the one to side with but Trucking Along, who is a C&D winner and was all the rage in the betting last time, and, Big Water, who is entitled to come on for his reappearance effort, both appear to be serious contenders also.

Prosecco ran out a 10-length winner of this corresponding race 12 months ago, but he's a year older now and might struggle to create such a favourable impression off this 14lb higher mark. Simply Ned was a hurdles winner over the distance here in February, but he fell on his chase/seasonal bow at Carlisle and that will come as a concern to his supporters. Preference is for CATCH TAMMY, who is up 10lb for bolting up at Stratford in September and is open to plenty more improvement in this sphere.
