Pleasant Company made a really pleasing introduction under Rules when decisively landing a bumper here last month. He warrants plenty of respect upped in trip on his hurdling bow, while Mac's Return is easily forgiven his debut effort for Paul Nicholls (came back sick) and will be a different proposition now. Nicky Henderson fields three, with dual point-to-point winner Medieval Chapel preferred of that trio as Royal Boy's jumping technique, over both hurdles and fences, has left plenty to be desired so far. TARA ROAD was a facile point winner in March and has performed admirably since joining Rebecca Curtis. He is taken to make a successful hurdling debut under the champion jockey.
An interesting contest to open proceedings. The likes of Pleasant Company and Tara Road appeal as the types to do well over hurdles, but Royal Boy brings some useful form to the table from last season and is worth siding with to put a disappointing reappearance over fences firmly behind him.

Rio De Sivola beat a subsequent winner on his British chasing debut when jumping boldly at Warwick last time and enters handicap company off a fair mark. Nick Williams's charge warrants maximum respect receiving a 5lb weight-for-age allowance and the assistance of Tony McCoy. Nigel Twiston-Davies is capable of readying one after a long layoff so Getting Ready is worth a market check tackling fences for this first time, but preference is for ORABORA. Philip Hobbs's representative has some solid form over timber to his name and looks well treated off a mark of 120 now sent chasing. Double Handful and Marcus Antonius would probably prefer a sounder surface.

Volnay De Thaix has made a strong visual impression in his two British starts thus far but, while Nicky Henderson's charge could develop into a really useful type, the bare form doesn't amount to a great deal and he is taken on with IRVING. Paul Nicholls's runner boasts a similarly progressive profile, his latest victory bolstered when the second ran an excellent race at Newbury on Wednesday. The five-year-old is taken to defy this rise in class with Splash of Ginge, an easy maiden hurdle winner last time, also worthy of respect receiving 3lb from the market principles.

Up To Something excelled himself in the jumping department at Newbury last time, travelling well before being done for toe by Wonderful Charm after the last. He will no doubt put in another bold show from the front but preference is for FOX APPEAL. Emma Lavelle's charge has made a fine start to his chasing career, being beaten by a subsequent dual winner on debut before getting within a length of Wonderful Charm next time. The six-year-old can open his account over the larger obstacles today. Raya Star was the best hurdler of these and has done little wrong since tackling fences. Whether he has the size to reach the same heights in this sphere is, however, open to question. Mr Mole will need to be delivered late but holds claims nonetheless.
Fox Appeal went close to beating Mr Mole's stablemate Wonderful Charm at Wincanton, and looks a more reliable proposition than Paul Nicholls' talented but enigmatic character, although this is certainly not a match, with Raya Star in particular having plenty more to offer over fences.

KILMURVY got back on track when fifth over 3m last time (had previously run out when well-held at Sandown) and looks fairly treated dropping back down in trip on a soft surface. The unexposed pair of Andy Kelly and Joanne One ought to make their presence felt, the first-named of particular interest having been on his toes before performing creditably at Newbury last time (with the selection in behind). Sinbad The Sailor warrants respect dropped in trip after travelling strongly at Cheltenham the last day, while Polly Peachum has the scope to prove better than a mark of 117 at some point this season. Rior completes the shortlist.
This is undoubtedly more competitive than the 2 races Joanne One has won this autumn but she has absolutely bolted up on both occasions and gets the vote to take the step up in class in her stride. The reappearing Polly Peachum is an obvious threat for the Henderson/Geraghty combination, with Andy Kelly and Kilmurvy a couple of others who should go well.

CARNINGLI was well backed when a close second behind Red Sherlock at Cheltenham last time, with the winner that day boasting extremely solid form (won at Ascot in February with the second, third and fourth all subsequent scorers). Rebecca Curtis's charge will be difficult to stop if reproducing that form today. Plenty of nice types in opposition, however, with Herons Heir making his debut for Dan Skelton after scoring impressively at Wexford in October. He warrants respect alongside Irish raider Joshua Lane and Nathans Pride, who makes his debut for Tim Vaughan after two impressive victories in Ireland.
