Expert Analysis

Tony Keenan

This valuable handicap chase attracted its usual big field with 28 runners in all, though few got into the race and a prominent position was an advantage, as the oldest runner in the field came out on top.

FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU has been a staple in races like this in recent seasons and finally won one to round off an excellent day for his jockey. Ridden from the front, he got into a good rhythm and stayed on strongly late, racing on what may have been the favoured outer of the track. He is not an obvious one to follow up.

SEARCH FOR GLORY was suited by a step up in trip after a good second at Navan and would have preferred slower ground. All five of wins have come right-handed, though he has not raced that way around in nearly a year.

KINTURK KALANISI travelled best here and looked the likely winner heading to the last. He is hard to win with having one once in 12 runs.

NOW IS THE HOUR ran his best race of the season and will be suited by further and slower ground.

O’MOORE PARK has done most of his racing over shorter trips than this but looked like a marathon distance would suit. He was outpaced after three out but kept on well.

BUACHAILLBOCHT shaped better than his sixth-place finish and is one to bear in mind for races like this. He did best of those that raced around the inner and got slightly hampered three out. It could be significant that another in the same colours was a non-runner to allow him into the field while he also gambled on. Softer ground would suit better.

CAPTAIN CODY was disadvantaged by the start and would prefer a longer trip.

BALLYSAX HANK was trying this trip for the first time and looked a non-stayer. He made a good move into the race and travelled strongly into the straight before not getting home.

SHANBALLY KID was having his first run since the Punchestown Festival and shaped like the run was needed. He was making a move into the race when making a mistake two out and should improve on this with the various Nationals likely his spring target.

MONBEG PARK only managed fourteenth but he was a couple of lengths down jumping the last around the inner over a trip that stretches him. This run is better than it looks and the two good handicap chases at this track over shorter he ran in last season appeal as obvious targets, especially now he has dropped in the weights a little.

WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT failed to match his Limerick run but raced largely around the inner which may have been unfavoured.

MIDNIGHT OUR FRED was runner-up in the race last season but ran no sort of race in first-time cheekpieces.
