An interesting maiden to open with a number of top stables represented. Shaleek, Jellicle, Ultrasonic and Fairest are all newcomers to take the eye on paper and should be noted in the market but at this stage it could prove safest to side with previous experience. Pretty Pebble shaped well on her Folkestone debut and is entitled to improve but the verdict goes to ALHIRA who has shown enough in her two starts so far to suggest she should be winning sooner rather than later.
Alhira sets a fair standard, but there are several likely looking newcomers among the opposition, among whom Fairest could prove the pick, and she'll be worth noting in the betting. Shaleek and Jellicle are others who could go well.

Clare Island Boy has produced his best form so far with cut in the ground so quick conditions would be a slight unknown for him while Position has a bit to prove following a lacklustre effort at Newcastle recently. Shamaal Nibras is another who failed to show his best last time and the safest option could prove to be Beverley winner CROQUEMBOUCHE who looks ready for this step up to a mile judged on his staying on third over 7f at Sandown last month.
Godolphin's Mizbah was a fine third in a competitive race at Newmarket last time and looks well treated off just 1 lb higher. Sir Michael Stoute's Croquembouche and Pickled Pelican may provide the stiffest opposition.

Makyaal should be capable of opening his account sooner rather than later having only narrowly missed out at Chepstow recently but slight preference is for recent C&D runner-up LARKRISE STAR. The 4-y-o is on a decent mark now and looks ready to resume winning ways. A return to form would put Zaheeb in the mix while Arkaim could be worth a second look in the preliminaries ahead of his handicap bow.
Makyaal is bound to be popular but his odds will probably be short, and better value may be had with Larkrise Star and Hierarch, the latter especially interesting having dropped to a career-low mark.

GAY GALLIVANTER returned to form with a fine second over this C&D three weeks ago and despite a 4lb rise in the weights for that effort, the Iceman filly rates the one to beat. Really well treated at present, it seems significant that Jamie Spencer is retained for the ride and she is fancied to outpoint the in form Ippi N Tombi who was a winner here two starts back. Prince Of Passion completes the shortlist.
Gay Gallivanter makes plenty of appeal after her latest effort with Jamie Spencer doing the steering, though Prince of Passion, Aviso and Ippi N Tombi all have solid claims, too.

ZIRAUN stepped up on a pleasing debut performance when third over an extended 7f at Warwick late last month and, with further improvement on the cards, she could make it third time lucky. Question Times, placed in Listed company as a juvenile, was fairly disappointing on her comeback run at Chester in May and it's questionable whether or not she's trained on so Tiberius Claudius, who was placed at this venue on his penultimate outing, rates the biggest threat.
Tiberius Claudius and Ziraun have both shown fair form, but Question Times stands out a mile on her second at listed level last autumn and is worth a chance to atone for her odds-on defeat at Chester in May.

Gramercy has run well in a couple of red hot handicaps this year and warrants respect, but IVER BRIDGE LAD could simply prove too classy for these. John Ryan's stable star was by no means disgraced when seventh in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes over 5f at Ascot last time and this significant drop in class will make life a whole lot easier. Royal Rock ran a cracker in Listed company at HQ latest and is certainly no forlorn hope.

Epic is interesting off a 4lb higher mark than when winning on the all-weather at Wolverhampton latest, but FLAME OF HESTIA edges the vote. Although still a maiden, there are plenty of positives to take from her six starts thus far and she wouldn't need to improve much on her second over C&D three weeks ago to take this. Armoise is worthy of consideration entering handicap company for the first time.
