After making an eye-catching debut over timber at Market Rasen, FINLAND can land the spoils in this opener. Despite a dodgy jumping display at the Lincolnshire track, Ann Duffield's charge still claimed second spot that day behind the useful Whirling and he can go one better here. Aviation will be a warm order after successive wins, but he's creeping up the weights, so Toss The Caber could give the selection most to do. If none the worse for his fall at Rasen, Ellerslie Tom could prove to be a shrewd each-way bet.
A four-month lay-off plus a drop in class should equal success for MODEL SON and give in-form jockey Pat Merrigan another trip to the winners' enclosure. Heather Dalton's charge has by far the best form in the race and looked the victor in a valuable contest at Kelso in May before just running out of gas. Premium First looks best of the rest, but he's been off the track for over a year, while any market moves for Starbuck could prove significant.
An interesting contest with classy chaser St Pirran making a rare return to hurdling. And he's not without a chance either, racing off a much lower mark. But it could pay to back fellow jumper TOWN CRIER after a decent stint over fences. A poor run in the Arkle aside, he's been in cracking form, and considering he's another racing off a much lower mark back over timber, he looks the one to be on. Mexican Pete is not without a chance, but saves his best form for Huntingdon, so Nawamees, the winner of this race last year, could be the next best.
If he can improve his jumping, then FULL HOUSE could win this at a canter. Paul Webber's six-year-old landed the spoils at Hereford and was going well at Market Rasen last time out before hitting the deck two from home. There shouldn't be much to trouble him here. St Matthew has been running reasonably well in tougher races and will appreciate this easier challenge, while the once-decent Turgeonev is not without a chance on his best form.
FLOTTA looks the banker of the meeting after his runaway success at Fontwell - and trainer Brendan Powell hasn't taken his charge on a 480-mile round trip to Yorkshire for nothing. A modest sort on the flat, Flotta slammed Almizan by 14 lengths on only his second race over the sticks and he should coast to another easy win here. Common Girl enjoyed a couple of facile victories before flopping at this course back in May, so Love That Benny could prove to be a better alternative.
A tricky finale and the tentative choice here is MAGS TWO after his easy victory at Huntingdon. Stepping up to beyond three miles did the trick for Ian McMath's gelding and despite an eight-pound penalty for that win, he could get his nose in front again. Don't expect the quirky Super Boston to repeat his Southwell success, while Alpha Juliet has been consistent without threatening to win. The one that could rise to the occasion is Place Above, who should be refreshed after his six-month rest.
