VALANTINO OYSTER is relatively unexposed at the trip and providing he can reproduce his polytrack form on this slower surface, can gain compensation for a recent near-miss at Wolverhampton to defy a 2lb higher mark. Carnac has conditions to suit and merits plenty of respect as he is unpenalised for his C&D success in an apprentices' contest last week. William's Way would have claims if putting his best foot forward but was disappointing over an extended two miles at Wolverhampton last time and may have to settle for a minor placing against improving sorts.
Carnac goes unpenalised for his victory over C&D last week and is capable of following up, but he's hardly a winning machine and is taken on with the unexposed Valantino Oyster, who should get the stamina test he is bred to relish. William's Way is reliable in these sort of events and also needs consideration.

Camps Bay should finish in the mix but three recent near-misses suggest it is best to look elsewhere and LA ESTRELLA gets the vote. Don Cantillon's eight-year-old has had tendon problems in the past and returns from a lengthy lay-off but has been prolific at this level when on-song and will benefit from a bit of give in this slower ground after tackling polytrack when last sighted. Castle Myth has a little to find on official figures but his consistency counts for a lot in this grade and he completes the shortlist.
A race that revolves around the well-being of La Estrella on his belated return, and the market will reveal plenty. Camps Bay is the obvious alternative.

Gold Story is undoubtedly handicapped to win races but his attitude is questionable and only the most loyal of fans could keep faith with Brian Ellison's inmate. DANCING FREDDY therefore gets the vote as he is also well handicapped on his best form when with James Given and appears to have benefitted from a recent change of scenery, turning in a credible second at Wolverhampton last week. The handicapper has cut Itsthursdayalready some slack and he too has to be given a strong chance now dropped 3lb and reverting back to 6f.
Gold Story has the form over C&D to take this, but his attitude remains a stumbling block and he is passed over in favour of the reliable Itsthursdayalready, who has repaid his purchase price with a string of solid efforts for his new yard. Dancing Freddy has found some form of late and won't be far away either.

CAPE VALE led from start to finish when scoring over C&D in December and should be a force to be reckoned with in what looks a very good claimer. Bonnie Prince Blue has conditions to suit and Punching is another that usually gives his running and shouldn't be too far away at the finish. Ingleby Arch looks the one for the forecast though as he was a high class handicapper on this surface last term. Recent efforts haven't been to the same standard but it would be no surprise to see him return to form whilst still in the care of his excellent handler.
It's slightly disconcerting to see Ingleby Arch dropped to this level given the form he was showing in handicaps over C&D last year, but he's still the most likely winner. Bonnie Prince Blue can take advantage if that rival doesn't run to his best, whilst a return to form for Cape Vale would come as no great surprise.

SIR LOUIS is progressing nicely over C&D (2-3) and can shrug off a 5lb rise to add further to his tally. Richard Fahey keeps faith with the capable apprentice in the plate and his 7lb allowance should ensure he remains competitively weighted. Elusive Fame is starting to look well handicapped again but this trip is very much on the sharp side for him and a greater threat is posed by Onceaponatime, who has plummeted down the weights in the last six months and is sure to be winning races off his current perch when things drop right.
Sir Louis meets Takajan on much worse terms than when they were first and third here last month, but he is thriving and can complete a hat-trick. Onceaponatime is best forgiven his most recent effort and may prove the biggest danger.
Dam a lightly raced maiden. Finished 10l behind Art History when last of 6 at 25-1 on his racecourse debut at Wolverhampton over 1m 1f last month.

Mark Johnston can do no wrong at present so New Latin will have his supporters. The Iffraaj gelding has had multiple chances to score previously though and spurned them, so the unexposed KISHANDA gets the nod after a respectable debut over track and trip earlier in the month. Hughie Morrison has a terrific record with his runners at the track so anything that is sent here from his Berkshire base warrants serious respect. Cadgers Brig and Pizzetti would be surprise winners and are best watched until showing more.
It's hard to ignore anything from the Mark Johnston stable at present, but New Latin has already shown signs of temperament and is taken on now switched to fibresand with Kishanda, who made a promising start over C&D recently.

DOUBLE DUCHESS remains one to tread cautiously with but it might just be that she is a sand specialist and if two terrible efforts on polytrack can be ignored, her recent record over C&D reads 2-2. There was no stopping her when eased down to score last time and she looks well treated now running under a penalty. Endaxi Mana Mou romped home by 11 lengths at the track last time and she is another that is potentially well treated off a 2lb higher mark now returned to handicaps. Mark Johnston's Aloneinthestreet completes the shortlist on his handicap bow.
Double Duchess looks well weighted, but Aloneinthestreet represents a yard in sparkling form and seems a certain improver now tackling handicap company. Despite being sold worryingly cheaply since she last ran, Endaxi Mana Mou remains an interesting contender and also needs a check in the market.
