JAMACHO was in with a fighting chance until blundering and losing all momentum at the last on his hurdling debut at Cartmel back in August and is entitled to have come on plenty for that experience. He will face stiff opposition from Tor, who is rated 89 on the Flat, as he makes his debut over timber having proven very progressive throughout the season, while Mick The Poser was second at Uttoxeter in July and looks best of the remainder on that evidence.

Top Tip: Jamacho (5)
Watch out for: Tor (11)

TOR turned himself into a useful Flat performer this year, and he will prove hard to beat if translating that ability over to hurdles. Jamacho shaped better than the distance beaten suggests at Cartmel in August, and he looks a likely improver, while Level of Intensity is another who could prove to have a future in this sphere.

CAPTAIN MOWBRAY came to win his race here over slightly shorter earlier in the month when falling at the last and, providing that hasn't left a mark, can get the first success of his career. Chain Of Beacons had a solid end to last season and could improve for a switch of yards, while Oscar O'scar warrants respect returning to a course and distance he has shown solid form in the past.

CAPTAIN MOWBRAY remains a maiden, but he was in the process of showing improved form and would have won but for departing late at this course last time, and he should remain competitive at this level. KALONDRA made quick progress through the handicap ranks over hurdles last term, finishing off rated 147 over timber. He can make a winning start to life over the larger obstacles if matching that level of form here and he could be one to follow as the year goes on. Brian Ellison's jumpers are often well schooled and Ballycrystal could be the best of the opposition, while the mare Deauville Crystal landed some handy prizes last season and is another to consider in receipt of a weight allowance.

A proper early season clash sees the exciting pair of RAVENHILL ROAD and Imperial Eloquence do battle over the unforgiving undulations of the northern venue. Brian Ellison's unbeaten six-year-old is backed to come out on top on this occasion, and the top-class bumper horse looks set to be a leading figure over hurdles this term. Imperial Eloquence was somewhat unlucky on his hurdling debut when coming to grief at Warwick and he is sure to be primed for the task here, as he's held in high regard by his connections. Others to consider are Porto Du Sud on his first start for local handler Rebecca Menzies and Golden Town, who brings plenty of hurdling experience to the table.

RAVENHILL ROAD has been absent the best part of a year, but he looked a top hurdles prospect when justifying short-price favouritism in a pair of bumpers and this looks a good starting point for him. Imperial Eloquence fell on his opening try over obstacles back in May but is in good hands and is the obvious danger.
