This looks a penalty kick for TREE TOP TYSON. The son of Soldier Of Fortune ran a career-best to fill the runner-up spot at Perth last month and Brian Hughes keeps the ride. With a similar performance, he will prove hard to beat. Frammy won a bumper at this venue before finishing a long way clear of Captain Ted (eighth) when third on his hurdles debut at Hexham recently. Donald McCain's gelding may have more to offer and is the main threat.
This looks like a solid enough opportunity for TREE TOP TYSON to get off the mark at the 5th attempt under rules, a very good 2nd after the wind operation last time out at Perth. The operation has clearly worked nicely for him, as he took his form to a new level in that novice hurdle contest last time. Only beaten by 3 lengths or so in the end, that would have blown the cobwebs away, ready for this, and he is the one they have to beat in this small field. Frammy was a winner in a bumper and a 3rd on hurdle debut at Hexham last time out; he is sure to build on that decent debuting effort, but he might have to settle for another place finish behind a potentially decent horse here. And Captain Ted can go around and finish 3rd, collect some prize money, gain some experience and kick on as the season progresses with more runs under his belt.

Couldbeaweapon justified favouritism by just under a length at Southwell earlier in the month and holds an obvious chance. However, an 8lb rise looks harsh, so it may pay to side with BEAT THE EDGE. Micky Hammond's charge hasn't finished outside the top three on each of his last five outings, with his latest effort being a narrow second at Cartmel in May. The son of Beat Hollow can be rewarded for his consistency on this occasion. Prized Jet looks best of the rest.
COULDBEAWEAPON was a game winner of a Southwell handicap chase last time out just under 2 weeks ago, jumping well, and although hampered at the first, he soon put that behind him and ran so very gamely in the finish to get his head in front by three-quarters of a length. There is an 8 lb raise in the weights to deal with here, which may seem harsh, but given the nature of how well he is running at present and the field he comes up against here, it looks like he can build on that effort from last time and go in again for an in-form team at present. Beat The Edge has been running very well without winning recently, placing in all of his last 5 runs; a good 2nd last time out at Cartmel back in May was a decent run, and now with a break under his belt, he can bounce back well and run a good race here. And Zuul came 3rd at Uttoxeter back in September; draw a line through the last run, as that was not his true showing. If replicating that effort from two starts ago, he is sure to run well here and fill the places.

SCARLET MOON is the highest rated of these on the Flat, improving no less than 14lb since being gelded last October. Archie Watson's three-year-old looks to have found a suitable opportunity on his first outing over timber and may prove tough to stop. Arctic Voyage has failed to fire since switching to the Iain Jardine stable, but makes his first start over hurdles and the booking of Brian Hughes is noteworthy. Only One Blue isn't out of it either.
Obviously more unknowns than knowns in this. The pick of them on form is SCARLET MOON, who hails from a yard that likes to unleash a decent enough hurdler from time to time. Having supplemented his narrow defeat on the hurdle track here with a success at Newton Abbot last time, Hostile Hotelier is a must for any shortlist. Jennie Candlish's charge isn't taken lightly reverting to fences from a 3lb lower rating, but RED DELTA may offer slightly better value. The six-year-old finished a good second in the Champion Novices' Hunters' Chase at Stratford in May and an opening mark of 108 could prove lenient. The returning Ballylinch is the pick of the remainder.
HOSTILE HOTELIER is hard to oppose here. He's very consistent and travelled as if there was more to come when winning last time over hurdles. The trip holds no fears back over fences. Red Delta is the most likely danger. He has bags of experience over fences with a point-to-point career under his belt and looked to run his best race when second in a novice hunter last time. This will be tougher. Ballylinch may not be quite of the same level but is reliable over fences under rules. A tongue-tie may bring a bit more from him.

BUMPY EVANS put an inauspicious round of jumping at Uttoxeter behind him when making all at Warwick last time out. That was the seven-year-old's fifth victory in his last six outings and he looks capable of defying a 9lb hike in the ratings. Fairlawn Flyer has also enjoyed a productive year and found only a subsequent winner too strong at Cartmel in July. However, Mickey Bowen's charge is sitting on a career-high mark and Newton Abbot winner Bagheera Ginge may give the selection most to think about.
BUMPY EVANS looks a really nice type in this sphere for Kerry Lee; he was in very good winning form for previous trainer Tim Vaughan, and although he did fall on debut for Kerry, he was 25 lengths clear at the end and did not look like he was going to stop at any point. He put that race behind him with a 6-length victory at Warwick last time out, making all as he usually does, pulling clear as they went down the home straight and winning pretty much unchallenged in the end. He looks a really nice prospect for the team, and even though he has a 9 lb raise in the weights to deal with here, his running style will suit this venue, and he can do his usual front-running style and win this from the front. Fairlawn Flyer is an incredibly game type and will definitely be there or thereabouts come the finish. He was on a massive winning streak before his last tin, going from a rating in the 90s up to his current mark of 121. 2nd off this mark at Cartmel in June, he has been freshened up nicely for this and is bound to run well again. And Bagheera Ginge hails from a yard in cracking form at present; after a good victory at Newton Abbot last time out, he is sure to run well here and fill the places.

ZANNDABAD has been competing in valuable races on the Flat since last seen over hurdles in July. He finished runner-up to the useful Hipop De Loire at Galway on that occasion and Tony Martin's charge could make a bold bid with Sean Bowen taking over in the saddle. Dickens arrives in fine fettle having notched up a brace of wins at Newton Abbot prior to finishing second over C&D latest. He's preferred to Perth runner-up Park Annonciade of the rest.
Irish raider ZANNDABAD is a little tricky to win with over hurdles, but any Irish raider has to be taken very seriously, and with Sean Bowen booked to ride, this could be a good opportunity for the Tony Martin horse to get off the mark over hurdles at the 10th time of asking. A 2nd in a maiden hurdle at Galway back in July, he has been running on the flat recently, running well at York before finishing down the field in a Leopardstown contest last time out. This looks like a weaker field than when he came 2nd at Galway; therefore, he can get his head in front with the champion jockey onboard. Dickens has been in good form since transferring to Jennie Candlish's; a winner on multiple occasions, he just got run down in the closing stages at this venue last time out by a horse who has since placed; therefore, the form is ok. He will no doubt run his usual good race here. And Park Annonciade is having his debut for Sarah Humphrey in this, who is a trainer that does very well with these types. A three-time winner over hurdles for previous connections of Double Green Racing, he is clearly a good type to get a hold of, and he can run well on his stable debut here.

A winner between the flags, BLUE TOPAZ finished a respectable fourth in a bumper at Uttoxeter on her first start for Fergal O'Brien. The winner has since followed up in and the daughter of Blue Bresil can land this with improvement likely. Ivan's Legacy faded out of contention in the closing stages at Hexham on his racecourse debut but could feature if learning to settle, while Art Dancer is worth a second look ahead of his introduction.
Point winner and bumper debut 4th, BLUE TOPAZ has been found a pretty good opportunity to get off the mark in this contest. With just 26 runners at this venue for trainer Fergal O'Brien in the last 5 years, 5 winners have come out of that; therefore, anything he takes to this venue has to be taken seriously. Stable jockey Jonathan Burke heads here for just the two rides as well, and he really has a good chance of riding a winner in the lucky last on the card. 4th and only beaten by 5 lengths on debut, she would have learnt plenty from that run, and with this being weaker on paper, she can make it 2nd time lucky for new connections. William Yeats came 2nd on his only point-to-point run; he makes his rules debut here for a yard that does very well at this venue.
