Paul Nicholls has shown throughout his career that he is a dab hand at reviving older horses and SAINT CALVADOS is one of those projects. An excellent third in the King George on stable debut, things haven't quite gone to plan since but the conditions of this race, in which he receives 6lb from last year's runner-up Mister Fisher, could help him regain the winning thread. It was too early to say how Erne River would have fared when falling in the Manifesto, and connections have bravely decided to pitch him into open company here.

An impressive winner of this contest last year when downing none other than Altior, GREANETEEN could be set fair to regain his crown despite a listless performance at the Dublin Racing Festival. The Paul Nicholls-trained eight-year-old continued his love affair with this track when producing an upset to win the Tingle Creek earlier in the season and behind him on that occasion was Nube Negra, who bypassed the Champion Chase due to the testing ground. Dan Skelton's charge goes particularly well fresh and he must be feared along with the admirable Sceau Royal, who travelled with menace through the Marsh Chase at Aintree before his stamina ran out.

BRIEF AMBITION takes a step up in class after winning all three of his starts over fences, but there is every chance he will improve again after scoring at Ludlow on his first appearance of 2022. If that is the case, he can shrug off the extra 6lb from the handicapper and keep his unbeaten record.
