Verdict

THE TOTHER ONE took full advantage of what looked a reasonable initial handicap mark when maintaining his unbeaten record in testing conditions at Newbury last weekend and a 7lb penalty is unlikely to anchor the six-year-old's progress. He's expected to be aimed at bigger and better prizes than this later in the season and is strongly fancied to make it four from four this afternoon. Saunders Road and Nicky Richards' reappearing Great Approach are feared most.

Verdict

Following his recent Grade 2 success at Cheltenham, it would be no surprise to see MOON OVER MIAMI back at Prestbury Park for a crack at the Arkle in March but he's only marginally preferred to Mahogany Blaze today. Nigel Twiston-Davies' five-year-old shaped like a top-class chaser in the making when winning on his chasing bow at Kempton in October and must be feared. Marodima's recent victory at Warwick has a strong look about it (second has won since) but he may find this step up in class beyond him.

Verdict

Ashley Brook shouldn't be too far away with a clear round of jumping, but this could come down to a battle between old rivals Monet's Garden and VOY POR USTEDES. Nicky Richards' grey looked as good as ever when holding Kauto Star at bay in the Old Roan Chase in October and he won't mind today's conditions, but he could find today's 2m trip a little on the sharp side and it's very hard to oppose Alan King's Queen Mother Champion Chase winner, whose recent second at Cheltenham represented a more than satisfactory seasonal bow. Paul Nicholls' young pretender Twist Magic shouldn't be allowed to slip under the radar, but this is his toughest task yet and he may have to settle for a place.

Verdict

This could be another good winning opportunity for the rapidly improving KANAD, who completed a hat trick of hurdling wins when landing a valuable contest on fast ground at Ascot last month. Testing conditions today may not be ideal, but he does boast some decent form on heavy and a 7lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to prevent the four-timer. The most obvious threats are Ring The Boss and Breedsbreeze, with marginal preference for the latter. Paul Nicholls' unexposed inmate won very nicely on his seasonal debut and could continue to pay his way over timber before being switched to the larger obstacles.
