COEUR DE LION chased home a smart type in the shape of Triumph Hurdle contender Defi Du Seuil last time out and a repeat of that performance would see Alan King's charge land this renewal without too much fuss. The four-year-old is likely to come into his own in handicaps when tackling further but he should be able to confirm that promise with a routine triumph here. Royal Reserve was fourth behind the impressive Charli Parcs at Kempton last month and could grab a place, while Don Bersy has scope for improvement but needs to brush up on his jumping.

An excellent renewal won last year by Polly Peachum and by the Nicky Henderson team in four of the last six renewals. It is a slight surprise to see the Seven Barrows team without a runner this time, and perhaps Ditcheat can take advantage with the potentially classy LIFEBOAT MONA. She has won three of her four races over hurdles and won with a degree of confidence at Ascot in November. Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old can keep improving and take this ahead of Briery Queen, who made an impressive winning return at Cheltenham recently but might not relish conditions as much as the selection. Midnight Jazz is a hardy type who could prove a threat.

Paul Nicholls saddles Capitaine, who appreciated the return to a sounder surface than he encountered at Haydock when running away with a Grade 2 after getting his own way out in front and he won't get that here with Charlemar liking to race forward. Preference goes to Nicholls' title rival Colin Tizzard and his FINIAN'S OSCAR, a 250,000 pounds purchase in November at the Cheltenham sales, who has already garnered a big reputation having won his point-to-point in impressive fashion at Portrush before winning in a canter over 2m6f at Hereford when beating a solid yardstick in Acting Lass. The return to 2m should prove to be no issue as the way he travelled suggested he would be adaptable with distances. Charlemar and Chalonnial are both respected taking a step up in class, while Celestial Path and Global Stage both attempt to win a Grade 1 on hurdling debut.

A big field with plenty of doubtful stayers and those whose best days are behind them. Dynaste would definitely seem to fall under the latter category and it is hard to see why he should be favourite for this contest given that he was well beaten by a few of these at Kelso last month. Gas Line Boy won that event in good style but a chance can be taken with the second from that race, CLOUDY TOO. The Sue Smith representative is 11lb better of with the winner of that race today and he finds himself just 1lb above his last winning mark, which came in a Grade 2 handicap at Haydock a year ago. Rocky Creek, Saint Are and Theatrical Star all have each-way appeal, while it would not be the biggest surprise to see Aachen outrun big odds.

Discours D'un Roi and Krugermac have to be of interest given that they are completely unexposed and could prove to be anything, but their lengthy layoffs could prove to be their downfall today.
