Karl Burke's colt will have gone into plenty of notebooks with his staying-on second at Newcastle on debut, before being collared close home over 6f at Doncaster last time. This is a step up in class, but the return to the minimum trip could see him strike. Risk Of Thunder took a big step forward from her debut to win impressively at Ripon a couple of weeks ago and she could prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Macho Pride.

A very competitive renewal of this Group 3 contest but marginal preference is for LIBERTY BEACH, who put in a career best when finishing third in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot last month. The daughter of Cable Bay appreciated the return to 5f on that occasion and she remains open to further improvement. Dakota Gold was highly progressive last year and he should not be discounted, as he was entitled to need his recent comeback run. Lazuli was an impressive winner of the Scurry over C&D and he looks to have a very bright future, although he will have to take another step forward today.

CROSS COUNTER has not won since taking the Dubai Gold Cup in March 2019 but the son of Teofilo has contested some of the best staying races across the globe since then. The five-year-old was well held when third to Stradivarius in the Gold Cup last month but he should find this trip to be more suitable. Dark Vision appears to have turned a corner in two starts this season having become a frustrating individual to follow last season. Mark Johnston's colt built on a solid comeback when second at Newcastle to land the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot but, at the weights on this occasion, there is every chance the runner-up from that contest, MONTATHAM, could reverse the form. William Haggas' grey did best of those drawn low and appears to have further improvement to come, especially if held on to a bit longer. Mutasaamy left behind a poor effort at Newcastle to score in great style at Kempton and he is respected along with Acquitted, who clearly wasn't right at Royal Ascot after finishing second to St James's Palace winner Palace Pier at Newcastle, and Zwayyan.

Enable was denied a third victory in the Arc de Triomphe by Waldgeist when suffering her first defeat since April 2017 and all roads lead back to the first weekend in October for another crack at history. She won this contest 12 months ago but this appears to be a stronger renewal and recent Coronation Cup hero GHAIYYATH could make life tough for John Gosden's star mare. The son of Dubawi was disappointing in the Arc himself, when probably feeling the effects of a devastating victory in Group 1 company at Baden-Baden the month before, but he has been in terrific form this campaign with a bloodless success in the Dubai Millennium at Meydan, when preparing for the Sheema Classic, followed by an excellent display at Newmarket last month. Japan is likely to come forward from his return in the Prince Of Wales's at Royal Ascot in a similar manner to how he progressed from each start last season, while the Japanese mare Deirdre cannot be discounted.

The penny has dropped this year for the daughter of Golden Horn, who can continue on an upward curve despite a 7lb rise. Be More made an encouraging reappearance at Haydock and the extra two furlongs could suit, while Asiaaf is an interesting handicap debutant having opened her account at Goodwood recently.

STAR IN THE MAKING, who was a useful performer as a two-year-old, lost little in defeat when a neck second at Leicester last month and won't mind the return to further for a team in decent form. Campari made a winning return at Chepstow on his first outing since being gelded and could have plenty more to come now joining the handicap ranks, while Eshaasy did better than the bare result suggested in the Britannia at Royal Ascot and will appreciate the drop back in trip. What An Angel was only beaten a neck at Bath recently and is another to consider for a yard who have a good record in this race.
