WINSTON C followed up a good third to Brewin'upastorm on his hurdling debut, in a Huntingdon race that has worked out extremely well, with a clear-cut victory at Wincanton. He carries a penalty but he has the scope for further improvement in this sphere having proven to be fairly useful on the Flat. Beaufort West is best judged on his fourth to Bright Forecast at Newbury at the end of November, and wasn't disgraced at the same track subsequently. Others to watch out for include El Kaldoun, Jaytrack Parkhomes and Bullfrog.

It was a huge surprise to see BUVEUR D'AIR blot his copybook in the Christmas Hurdle when run down close home by stable companion Verdana Blue after his usual slick jumping failed him with a rare bad mistake at the third-last. The dual Champion Hurdle hero has landed this contest in both seasons en route to Cheltenham and connections have opted to take the same path towards another defence of his Festival crown. Vision Des Flos is best of the remainder but was beaten 21 lengths by Nicky Henderson's star in the Fighting Fifth. Roksana could have progression to come having ended last season with a career-best second behind Santini, albeit over 3m at Aintree.

Defi Du Seuil appears to be back to his best based on his last couple of performances but he didn't appear to quite stay an extended 2m4f when chasing home Lostintranslation in the Dipper at Cheltenham. He should give Colin Tizzard's gelding a race once again but may not be able to reverse the form. VINNDICATION remains unbeaten under Rules and he was an impressive winner of a Grade 2 at Ascot shortly before Christmas. The six-year-old will have to improve again to win this but he is lightly raced and is likely to have much more to offer.

KEEPER HILL has looked revitalised since the switch back to hurdles and could have more to offer from a mark of 144. Already qualified for the Pertemps at the Cheltenham Festival next month, a win here could book a ticket into the Stayers' Hurdle, and the eight-year-old must go well given that he is still relatively unexposed in this sphere after a mixed campaign over the larger obstacles last season. Ballymoy has done it well the last twice and should enjoy this additional yardage, while Lanzarote third Lord Napier is 13lb above his last winning rating but is only six and still improving. Mr Antolini and The Hollow Ginge could prove best of the remainder for Nigel Twiston-Davies.
