Outrank appreciated the step up to this trip when breaking his maiden at Leicester last month and there should be a lot more improvement to come. Mark Johnston's charge figures prominently in calculations, as does Strummer, but the vote is for POPLAR CLOSE - an improving daughter of Canford Cliffs who won a Musselburgh maiden two starts back and finished a close second to subsequent Beverley runner-up Dutch Heiress off 2lb lower on her nursery debut last time.

Watch out for: Outrank (3)

POPLAR CLOSE's latest Musselburgh second came in a small-field affair but the form has been boosted a couple of times since and David O'Meara's charge is taken to go one better now. Recent Leicester scorer Outrank is an obvious danger, while Richard Guest's Mr Potter caught the eye at Ayr last time and is a potential improver on nursery debut.

David Barron's filly left a moderate Thirsk debut well behind when finishing second at Musselburgh last month and she beat David O'meara's inmate by over three lengths. Bahamian Bird and Twentysvnthlancers are other interesting contenders.

EDGAR BALTHAZAR wasn't winning out of turn at Newcastle eight days ago and the son of Pastoral Pursuits can go from strength to strength. Keith Dalgleish's inmate ran well in defeat in each of his previous four starts before reigning supreme at the Gosforth Park circuit and a 6lb penalty might not be enough to halt his progress. Others expected to be thereabouts are Haydock winner Bop It and Tango Sky.

ZAEEM has improved no end since joining Ivan Furtado from Dean Ivory - racking up a hat-trick with wins at Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Brighton and finishing a close third when in search of a four-timer here latest. Left on a mark of 82, the Echo Of Light gelding might not be done improving yet and is well worth another look. Course scorer Kalk Bay ran better than his finishing positions suggests at Beverley and was on a hat-trick that day, so he's noted along with Auspicion.

AUSPICION failed to cut any ice in the Britannia but his previous Musselburgh third looks strong form in the context of this race and he's worth siding with against more exposed opposition back from a break. TROPICANA BAY finished within a length of the highly-progressive Mistrusting as a juvenile and has done enough in outings at Brighton and Wolverhampton the last twice to suggest she's up to winning a maiden of this nature. Pomme De Terre wasn't without his supporters when second at Carlisle last time, though, and must figure prominently in calculations, while Sea Of Green and Eye Glass are also noted.

Roger Varian's TROPICANA BAY arrives on the back of a couple of solid efforts in handicaps and should take a bit of stopping. Supporters will be pleased to see Timmy Murphy keep the ride and he was most impressive when exploiting 7lb lower over this distance at Salisbury two starts back. Bizzario arrives in good nick and on the back of two decent efforts at Ascot and Goodwood. He joins Hookergate Grammar on the shortlist.

THATCHERITE has shaped with plenty of promise in three of his last four starts and has been left on a mark of 67 following a solid placed effort over 5f at Beverley last time. The step up to this 6f trip should pose no problems if that effort on The Westwood is anything to go by and the seventh horse has since won at Haydock. Ypres won over this distance at Carlisle two starts back so can be forgiven his latest effort over the minimum trip at Beverley while also of interest is Tavener.

Watch out for: Ypres (7)
