HIGHBROW BLUE hacked up by 19 lengths when tackling fences on his first outing for new connections and, on just his sixth start under Rules, he looks ominously unexposed at the bottom of the weights now switching back to hurdles. Last year's winner Beau Michael also looks potentially well treated off just 1lb higher than his success 12 months ago, but he will need to leave his recent form behind to get on the premises. Ground conditions posed no problems for the son of Poliglote, though, and he looks like a major player. The Graham Wylie-owned duo, On His Own and Boston Bob, are leading contenders in a below-par renewal, although it's interesting that Ruby Walsh has deserted the first-named, who went down by a short head in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, to ride the latter, who finally put it all together over fences when landing the Melling Chase at Aintree. Neither should be ignored, although it's easier to whittle down the remainder, with 2011 Gold Cup winner Long Run having looked a shadow of his former self this campaign and First Lieutenant not one for maximum faith, despite the addition of first-time blinkers. The suggestion, therefore, is LYREEN LEGEND, who travelled better than most in the Gold Cup before weakening up the hill, and this shorter trip on a decent surface have long threatened to prove his optimum conditions.

Three of the first four home in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham line up, with SILVER CONCORDE bidding to repeat his Festival heroics. The son of Dansili was given a masterful ride by today's pilot at Prestbury Park when creeping around the inside before displaying an impressive turn of foot to fly past his rivals. A similar display would make him tough to stop. Shaneshill and Black Hercules, second and fourth respectively, may need to draw the finishing kick out of that rival if they want to reverse the form, and the latter will likely help set a stern pace. Seven Nation Army represents last year's winning connections and Jollyallan looks another interesting raider, so both deserve a market check.

FLETCHERS FLYER was a winner in the pointing field before finishing second on his debut under Rules. The winner was subsequently denied by a head in Aintree's Champion NH Flat Race so that form looks solid and he is an exciting British raider. Totally Dominant returns from the best part of a year off course, but was last seen finishing runner-up to a future winner at Sligo and the 100,000 pound Brightwells purchase deserves plenty of respect. Virtuoso Rouge looks the best of the rest after finishing second behind a decent yardstick at Navan.
