A tricky looking maiden opens the card but positive market moves for either of Richard Hannon's newcomers Rockinante or Mister Music should be noted. Slight preference, however, is for another well-bred debutant, namely PALADIN. With jockey Mickael Barzalona and trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni in good form, a big run is expected from the son of Dubawi. Elkhart has racecourse experience under his belt and despite the fact he was well beaten into fourth on debut at Haydock, he is entitled to improve and could prove to be the each-way value in the race.
Paladin and Rockinante are a couple of interesting newcomers, but this is the chance for Tudor Empire to show what he's all about following a luckless debut. Flying Trader also appeals among those that have run.

The form of MISTY CONQUEST's Pontefract win appears to be working out nicely, with the runner-up Caspar Netscher performing really well in a couple of Listed races since and the third home Red Duke going on to win a Redcar maiden. Tom Dascombe's filly faces another tough task today but is clearly progressive and could be up to the task. Queens Revenge is held in high regard by Tim Easterby and didn't get much luck at the start in the Hilary Needler at Beverley. She is worth another chance and the booking of Ryan Moore is interesting today. Kempton maiden scorer Hawfinch should be considered carefully, along with Lily's Angel and impressive Pontefract winner My Propeller.
My Propeller made a terrific impression at Pontefract and looks a ready-made winner in this higher grade with or without further improvement. The Clan Macdonald looked better than the average debut maiden winner, while Lily's Angel represents solid Group-race form.

Afsare hasn't delivered on last year's promise so far in 2011 but it would be dangerous to think he can't reverse Brigadier Gerard form with runner-up Poet and fourth Cavalryman. However, Luca Cumani's charge has something to prove at present so it might be worth siding with VERDANT, who won a couple of handicaps last summer and appeared to appreciate the drop into Listed company when third at Ascot having struggled in a Group 3 on his seasonal bow in April.
Not an easy race to call with the majority coming here on the back of a long break or with a bit to prove. Cavalryman is a class act at his best and is selected in the hope that he does better with last month's reappearance behind him. The reliable Allied Powers should get involved, while it's too soon to say we've seen the best of Verdant.

THE CHEKA appears to have really come of age this term, finishing second to Lolly For Dolly and Side Glance on his first two outings and gaining a richly deserved third career success in a Group 3 at Haydock last month. With solid form on soft and good to firm ground, he is really versatile and holds a major chance in this contest, despite conceding weight all round. Last year's Ayr Gold Cup victor Redford makes plenty of appeal but has to reverse recent form with Beacon Lodge. Libranno was a quality juvenile and hasn't been disgraced in defeat this season. He's well worth a try over 7f.
The Cheka has no easy task conceding weight all round and this might be the day that Redford comes back to his best after 2 promising efforts this season. Flambeau should also go well, while a visor on Field of Dream is long overdue and he could easily step up on his form so far.

It might be worth taking a chance on the unexposed colt LYRIC STREET. He broke his maiden tag over this distance on the Rowley course here in May and the runner-up Wild Coco has franked the form with a subsequent eight-length win at Haydock. Luca Cumani's colt is open to plenty of improvement and showed he acts on an easy surface when third first time out last term. Auld Burns won a big pot at the Craven meeting but has failed to build on the win since, so perhaps Measuring Time and Irish challenger Siren's Song will give the selection most to think about.
Both Lyric Street and Chef are open to plenty of improvement, but Siren's Song was far from disgraced in the Oaks and, with a stronger pace to aim at, she can make the most of a drop in grade.

It might be worth giving NAQSHABBAN another chance after Luca Cumani's three-year-old appeared to have a problem when last seen here back in May. The well-backed son of Street Cry was a disappointing favourite that day but had previously looked to be going places in his first two races and is worth another chance to prove himself. Udabaa must not be overlooked after an impressive Haydock romp earlier this month, while Zain Shamardal is another to consider. The major eye-catcher is Burj Nahar, who was touted for the Derby after his taking Nottingham debut win in November 2009 but hasn't been seen in public since. The betting market should help shed some light on what is expected after his lengthy layoff.
This looks tricky, particularly with Burj Nahar very hard to assess. Naqshabban remains with promise now handicapping, but the safest option looks Zain Shamardal who travels as if this mark is well within his capabilities.

Dark Promise returns to the track after a lengthy layoff and could need the run, despite showing plenty of promise at the end of last season. Wallis picked up from where she left off when winning at Yarmouth in May and while, she should be considered carefully, preference is for WATNEYA. She receives a three-year-old weight allowance and remains dangerously well treated after a convincing success over this distance on similar ground at Sandown earlier in the month.
Plenty of improving fillies in the line-up, none more so than Watneya, who won going away on her first crack in handicap company at Sandown 15 days ago. Wallis, bidding for a 4-timer, and Dark Promise, who's down to 1m on return, are just 2 of several potential dangers.
