ALVARADO has to concede weight all-round but has looked a fine staying prospect when completing a double at Carlisle and his yard have returned to action in blistering form. Candy Creek will be a popular choice receiving 11lb from the selection but she was undoubtedly disappointing behind Duke Of Lucca at Newbury latest and the winner has been well beaten since. Backstage is a very useful staying chaser whose rider will need to make this a thorough test of stamina but conditions will be in his favour.
A trio stand out here, namely Alvarado, Backstage and Candy Creek. Backstage is very much respected back over hurdles but may struggle to cope with Candy Creek, who represents top connections and has improvement in her still.

Nicky Henderson has some outstanding chances on today's card and LORD RAGNAR can make the long journey from Lambourn pay off. A convincing winner on his return to action at Cheltenham in November, he was probably a little ring-rusty when beaten at Doncaster last Friday and can gain compensation here. Abstinence looked a very progressive type when easily landing a novices' event at Wetherby's Christmas fixture in 2008 and a long absence is not normally a problem for runners from this yard. Zafranagar battled to score over 2m1f at Cheltenham in November and looks ready for this step-up in trip but Mesbaah has suffered in the weights after scoring over 2m here in November.
Plenty are worthy of consideration, but Harry The Hawk caught the eye on more than one occasion over hurdles last term and looks well treated having won on the level since. Lord Ragnar and Zafranagar also have plenty going for them.

Gordon Elliott's raiders to this country are always to be feared, especially in Scotland, and CARLITO BRIGANTE can take the spoils back to Ireland. A C&D winner in November, he improved massively on that effort to land a Grade 2 event at Leopardstown on St Stephen's Day and this represents a drop in class. Nigel Twiston-Davies has a promising type in Baccalaureate, who produced one of the shocks of the season when landing a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last week at odds of 100/1. That was way ahead of anything previously shown but there appeared no fluke about the success. Ascendant scored on the level here in September and followed up in smooth style on his hurdling bow last month. He can improve again and take a hand while Ultimate is by no means out of this despite a disappointing effort when strongly fancied at Cheltenham.
Ultimate will appreciate the return to a sharper track, but may struggle to live with Carlito Brigante, who shot to prominence in the Triumph Hurdle betting following a taking display on his debut for Gordon Elliott. Ascendant has lots of improvement in him after an impressive win here on his hurdling bow.

The executive will be delighted with the turnout and THE POLOMOCHE can take this for the Henderson yard who also have chances with Working Title. This pair met over timber at Ayr last April when the former came out on top conceding almost a stone. Both have done well enough over fences and jockey bookings suggest The Polomoche can come out on top again. Door Boy has done everything right so far over the bigger obstacles and looks certain to get involved while Mr Crystal made a promising start to his chasing career at Wetherby while the experienced Double Vodka outstayed his rivals at Catterick last time.
The Polomoche hasn't needed to get anywhere near his best hurdles form to win both his chase starts, and can make it 3 out of 3 here despite a double penalty. Door Boy is an obvious danger, along with Working Title.

Tom George may have found another good opportunity for ZANIR, who looked in fine shape when scoring comfortably at Leicester in November. Eradicate has a long absence to overcome but that didn't prevent him making a winning debut over timber at Taunton a year ago and he is definitely one to keep on the right side. European Dream beat Along The Nile in this a year ago but has struggled subsequently after a big rise in the weights and Marchand D'Argent may prove a bigger threat. The West Country raider was in fine form at this time last year and will be better for a recent run behind Novikov at Kempton.

It's a little surprising to see STRIKING ARTICLE in a claimer as he has done well over fences, scoring three times from seven starts, the latest when easily beating Nirvana Swing at Wetherby in October. Albanov landed a Kelso handicap in November in good style but disappointed a month later at Doncaster while John Forbes battled on well to get the better of Fortysecond Street at Catterick and will be suited by the longer trip. Lahib The Fifth's only chasing success came at Kelso in October but he would have gone close but for falling here the following month.
Whilst it's slightly disconcerting to see Striking Article dropped to this level, he rates by far the most likely winner. Albanov looks the main danger ahead of John Forbes.

OWEN GLENDOWER can send followers of Nicky Henderson home happy as he looked a nice prospect when easily landing the odds at Taunton in December. Robbie wasn't particularly fancied on his debut here in November but gave supporters of Bridlingtonbygones a fright and though the winner has been beaten since, it was a fair performance from the runner-up. Allow Me ran really well here in November and wasn't disgraced in softer conditions at Catterick subsequently while Malin Bay has a very nice pedigree for this sphere and is one to note on debut.
Owen Glendower made no mistake at the second time of asking, but may be up against it here conceding 7 lb to likely improver Robbie. The Nicky Richards' pair Malin Bay and Paul Revere are of interest on their debuts, and the market should help to split them.
