BURBANK showed improvement from his hurdles debut when winning comfortably from Man From Mars at Huntingdon last month and looks more than capable of defying a 7lb penalty against this opposition. The step up in distance will also bring about further improvement being related to smart chaser Wahiba Sands. Winningtry has shown some solid form over timber having placed on both his starts at Aintree and Taunton so merits respect, while Tree Of Liberty looks best of the remainder.
Hard to see past BURBANK who can follow up his Huntingdon success with more improvement forthcoming. Winningtry is the obvious one for the forecast returning from a break.

Trainer Brian Ellison won this contest in the most bizarre of circumstances 12 months ago with Five In A Row, who touched a huge price in running, and he saddles Apterix, who looked progressive until he unseated on his last start at Wetherby behind Yorkist. The step up in distance will likely bring about more from the son of Day Flight but he has plenty to prove to beat FRODON, who has been given time to recover from his last-fence fall in a dramatic Kauto Star Novices' Chase at Kempton over Christmas and the drop back in distance is a huge positive. Holly Bush Henry needs to improve from his only chase start at Wetherby but is entitled to with better ground a help.
FRODON had faded out of it when falling in the 3m Grade 1 at Kempton on Boxing Day and there is a good chance he'll resume winning ways back in trip if none the worse for that. Brian Ellison won this in 2013 and 2016 and has a good chance again with Apterix, while Holly Bush Henry is interesting back over fences after shaping well at Wetherby in October.

PETER THE MAYO MAN has been given a winter break to avoid softer ground but couldn't have been more impressive when dotting up in a handicap when last seen in November at Newbury and this appeals as the perfect target as a springboard towards the spring festivals. Lough Derg Spirit shaped as though he would be suited by a stiffer test of stamina at Ascot when fourth in a Grade 2 behind Capitaine so may prove vulnerable once again, with the main danger looking to be impressive hurdling debutant High Secret, a former Sir Mark Prescott handicapper on the Flat.

Brian Ellison landed this renewal in 2011 with Elite Land and the North Yorkshire-based handler looks to hold pressing claims once more with FAIR LOCH receiving so much weight from San Benedeto and Baltimore Rock. Those two deserve to be at the top of the betting, with the former in particular fancied to enjoy this sharp track. Donald McCain has added his name to the roll of honour twice since 2012 but Witness In Court will have to improve for that record to be bettered.
BALTIMORE ROCK ran no sort of race at Fairyhouse last time, beaten a long way out, but he is well treated on the pick of his form, and is worth chancing for a yard that continue in form. The drop back to 2m on this sharp track is a bit of a concern for San Benedeto, but he is just preferred to Fair Loch for the forecast.

Ami Desbois has already shown a high level of form in graded company, having finished second to Wholestone in a Grade 2 and third in the Grade 1 Challow Novices' Hurdle before winning at Wetherby on Saturday. OVERLAND FLYER looked to have a very bright future when a 22-length winner at Taunton on his Rules debut and he could take plenty of beating. Ballycrystal, Monbeg Charmer and Soupy Soups all arrive here with an official mark of 130 and they too make some appeal.
There's surely more to come from MONBEG CHARMER now he gets a chance up in trip, so he's a tentative vote to take this competitive-looking novice with the likely benefit of having his own way in front. Overland Flyer is an obvious threat on the back of his facile debut success, while the gutsy Ballycrystal is bound to give his running once more.

Nicky Henderson has won the last couple of runnings of this race, including with CUP FINAL 12 months ago, and the eight-year-old son of Presenting can deliver again. His Punchestown Festival success last April rates rock solid form and returning from a 283-day absence isn't too much of a concern as he has run well fresh in the past. Wotzizname is lightly raced and warrants plenty of respect on his hurdling return, while El Bandit and Oscar Rock are others to keep an eye on.
OSCAR ROCK's superiorty was masked by a couple of mistakes when successful at Market Rasen in November, so a 5 lb rise still leaves him on a good mark, especially considering his chase form. Cup Final won this race 12 months ago but his mark this time asks for a lot more, so Aubusson could be the chief threat.

BEYOND THE CLOUDS was an impressive 12-length winner on his racecourse debut over this C&D and, open to any amount of improvement, he is fancied to complete the double. Point-to-point scorer Ballyvic Boru only found one too good on his NH debut at Sedgefield, pulling 32 lengths clear of the rest, and he is likely to be in the shake-up again, while Captain Woodie, Wemyss Point and Amateur add further spice to the race.
A very interesting bumper to conclude things. BEYOND THE CLOUDS was a very impressive winner on his C&D debut and is taken to follow up, but he's unlikely to have things all his own way as Captain Woodie looked a similarly good prospect when scoring at the first time of asking, while there was also plenty to like about Ballyvic Boru's debut second.
