There was little to choose between Grand Jury and HOLLOW GAMES when placed behind Ginto in the Grade 1 Lawlor's Of Naas Novice Hurdle and slight preference is given to the Gordon Elliott-trained gelding over this extra quarter mile. The selection won his maiden over a similar trip at Down Royal and stamina certainly seems his strong suit. Whatdeawant was well-fancied for that Naas event but finished about four lengths back in fifth. Eric Bloodaxe also has form tying in with Ginto that leaves him a bit to find. However, he's a tough sort that will also enjoy a stamina test and stayed on strongly to convincingly beat Freedom To Dream in a 2m7f Grade 2 at the Limerick Christmas meeting.
HOLLOW GAMES emerged with plenty of credit despite losing his unbeaten record in the Lawlor's of Naas Novice Hurdle last time and remains capable of better, especially now stepping back up in trip, so he's an appealing candidate. Whatdeawant shaped better than the bare result in the same race and is worth another chance, with Grand Jury and Eric Bloodaxe also respected.

VAUBAN was backed as if defeat was out of the question on his jumping debut when going down by a half-length to Pied Piper in a Punchestown maiden. That form received a major boost when the winner bolted up in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last Saturday and the Willie Mullins-trained gelding, twice successful on the Flat in France including a Listed race, can be expected to progress with that jumping experience under his belt. Fil Dor is the obvious threat having won all three hurdle starts in fine style. He drew clear on the run-in to beat Lunar Power for the second time at Graded level here at Christmas. Icare Allen won a 1m4f French bumper and remains unbeaten having got off to a good start for present connections by taking an 18-runner maiden at this venue. Any market move for the other Mullins pair, Il Etait Temps and Vadaly, would be interesting.
FIL DOR was impressive when maintaining his 100% record over hurdles in a C&D Grade 2 on his latest start over Christmas and he gets the nod to come out on top again with further progress in the offing. Vauban, who produced a highly promising effort behind the selection's stablemate Pied Piper in December, is a major threat though, ahead of Ben Siegel and Icare Allen.

RIVIERE D'ETEL has taken really well to fences this season forcing the pace to win her first three starts including twice in Graded races. The Martaline mare lost her unbeaten record over the larger obstacles in the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase here at Christmas but her second to Ferny Hollow probably rates a career best effort and she remains on an upward curve. Willie Mullins mounts a very strong challenge with three runners all yet to taste defeat over fences. Blue Lord was a smart novice hurdler last term and has jumped well to score over fences at Fairyhouse and Naas, while Haut En Couleurs and Saint Sam were both useful juveniles last season and impressed on their chasing debuts. The latter jumped particularly well at Fairyhouse and is an exciting prospect.
This race has eluded Gordon Elliott so far but RIVIERE D'ETEL gets the vote to put that stat right and give his mare a first success at the highest level having bumped into the top-notch Ferny Hollow on St. Stephen's Day. She receives weight all round and looks the way to go. Willie Mullins' trio are all unbeaten over fences and his Blue Lord is preferred to Saint Sam for the forecast spot.

Panda Boy appreciated the step up to three miles when scoring over course and distance at Christmas and, with just five career starts, could well progress enough to defy an 8lb penalty. DUNBOYNE was seven lengths back in fifth but the 2m7f Thurles maiden hurdle winner was badly hampered at a crucial stage and is fancied to turn the tables. Futurum Regem (third) and A Great View (fourth) also ran well in that Pertemps Qualifier at this venue and merit consideration. Good Time Johnny impressed here at Christmas but has gone up a total of 18lb for two wins over 2m4f, while Priory Park has a similar profile being on a hat-trick after a cosy win also over 2m4f here last time. Maze Runner beat Unexpected Depth in this race 12 months ago, while The Jam Man and Enjoy D'allen are others for the shortlist.
DUNBOYNE really caught the eye when fifth over C&D just after Christmas and Gordon Elliott's low-mileage 7-y-o is fancied to take a big step forward here. Hat-trick seeking Priory Park rates the obvious threat despite having a career-high mark to overcome. Several others can have a say, with The Jam Man and Panda Boy both high on the shortlist.

KEMBOY and Frodon both like to race prominently and, even taking into consideration obvious concerns about riding tactics, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding gets the vote to take this valuable prize for the second successive year. The selection loves this course and distance having also won a Savills Chase and comes here with a very similar profile to last season when also going close in that Christmas highlight. Frodon was primed to beat Galvin, Minella Indo and Delta Work at Down Royal this autumn but ran out of steam in the straight last time in the King George at Kempton. Minella Indo ran too bad to be true in that race and connections reported the whole experience took a lot out of him. Hopefully he'll put that disappointment behind him and return to something like the form which landed the Cheltenham Gold Cup last March. Asterion Forlonge has obvious jumping issues especially going left-handed.
KEMBOY gets the nod to build on his good run in the Savills here over Christmas and land this for the second year running. The vote for the forecast spot goes to Minello Indo, who can't have been right in the King George at Kempton (cheekpieces and going right-handed both possible excuses) and is worth one more chance to show he's still capable of form approaching last season's Gold Cup win.

A WAVE OF THE SEA won a much more competitive renewal of this race 12 months ago. His preparation this time is certainly unorthodox having been campaigned in staying handicaps, notably when second to Ontheropes in the Munster National at Limerick. Grange Walk beat Exit Poll over course and distance at Christmas but John Ryan's charge needs to bounce back after jumping poorly at Fairyhouse last month. Mt Leinster hasn't reached the same heights over hurdles or fences as he's shown on the Flat and the free-running gelding now switches to handicap company after filling third spot behind odds-on stablemate Haut En Couleurs over course and distance.
EXIT POLL has a bit of class about him so is taken to defy top weight after his decent second back in handicap company here on Boxing Day. Mt Leinster remains open to improvement as a chaser now handicapping so is bound to be popular for Willie Mullins, while Batcio wasn't disgraced in a better race than this at Fairyhouse last month.

FACILE VEGA is certainly bred in the purple being by Walk In The Park out of the record-breaking Quevega and lived up to his pedigree on debut here at Christmas when taking control in the straight to readily beat Joyeux Machin by six lengths with the remainder well strung out behind. The runner-up has gone one better since at Navan and the selection can progress again from that initial experience. Itswhatunitesus has a similar profile having also justified strong support in good style on his only start at Navan when beating Killer Mode (also won since). Sandor Clegane and The Big Doyen both come here off the back of comprehensive wins at Punchestown but have more on their plate here, while Embassy Gardens appeared to need 2m4f when scoring on debut here at Christmas.
FACILE VEGA is already vying for favouritism in the Champion Bumper after his emphatic winning debut over C&D and, while this is clearly tougher, he gets the marginal vote over The Big Doyen, who has also displayed a big engine so far. Gordon Elliott's representative, Itswhatunitesus, can't be ruled out.
