The penny looks to have dropped with DORTMUND PARK in his last two outings and Gordon Elliott's charge can add Graded success to his ever-growing CV. He won a strong contest at Thurles on treacherous ground two weeks ago, picking up well the further he went and shaping like a Cheltenham contender in the making. Victory here would likely cement his place in the Albert Bartlett next month and he can account for Fabulous Saga, who might not be allowed the luxury of an easy lead this time, and Carter McKay, who has his quirks but didn't shape badly behind two smart animals over 2m at Punchestown last time out.

MIN constantly leaned on Simply Ned on the run for home over course and distance in Grade 1 company over Christmas and was inevitably demoted into second spot by the stewards. The suspicion now is that he wants further, but many of Willie Mullins' string didn't run to form over that period and he can be chanced at his odds to resume his progress. Stablemate Yorkhill arguably has even more to prove after a laboured effort in the Gold Cup over three miles and, while this drop in distance will help, he does have a tendency to pull quite hard and all of his best career efforts have come under Ruby Walsh rather than Paul Townend. Last year's Champion Chase winner Special Tiara has a touch of class and could be the answer for each-way value seekers.

Petit Mouchoir looked mightily impressive when making a winning debut over fences at Punchestown back in October, though he has since had an injury setback and this return from a 108-day absence is an obvious concern. He did beat FOOTPAD at this meeting over hurdles last year and in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, but the latter looks like a different beast over the larger obstacles and can land this prize en route to the Arkle at Cheltenham in five weeks time. Demi Sang looked to possess an engine when making a winning debut for Willie Mullins at Naas last month, but he will need to improve his jumping to be a major force here.

A typically competitive handicap for this venue and several merit close consideration. That's A Wrap looks best treated of the five JP McManus runners off an opening handicap mark of 123, while Rachael Blackmore is an interesting jockey booking on Patricks Park for Willie Mullins. Squouateur has a big pot in him but could be using this as a pipe-opener before Cheltenham next month, while Tully East might not be in love with this ground but does look suited by the drop back to this distance. Some Plan won on his only visit here at this meeting 12 months ago, but the prospects of BLAST OF KOEMAN look tough to ignore. The Irish Champion Hurdle has a confusing look with plenty of unanswered questions on the table. The main focal point is the brilliant Faugheen, who has a lot to prove after an inexplicable effort in the Ryanair Hurdle over C&D, in a race won by Mick Jazz, and it is impossible to predict whether he will bounce back to what he achieved at Punchestown or run similar to last time. His stable companion Melon has a first-time hood to help him settle down but, while he is open to improvement, his novice hurdle form doesn't stack up as strongly as first expected and the fact he couldn't beat the old guard of My Tent Or Yours and The New One tempers enthusiasm. Mick Jazz caused a shock here at Christmas but is one of the more reliable contenders in the field and should run his race. Defi Du Seuil was disappointing at Ascot when only beating one home behind Lil Rockerfeller but had excuses with his scope afterwards not being completely right. That said, he has a bit to prove now at the highest level against top hurdlers so a chance is taken on SUPASUNDAE. Jessica Harrington's string weren't 100 percent over Christmas but he ran an excellent race to finish second to Apple's Jade here over 3m and, despite him using this as a prep for the Stayers Hurdle, he looks a much better horse now than he did when tackling 2m earlier on his career. A forceful ride from Robbie Power could very much reward each-way punters.

An ultra-competitive handicap hurdle sees the potential for a big gamble to be landed with Off You Go, a leading candidate for JP McManus and Charles Byrnes. The son of Presenting is beginning to get the hang of things over hurdles and won as he pleased at Limerick over Christmas. That said, the form took a knock recently with the runner-up disappointing and this is a different kettle of fish compared to winning a seven-runner handicap over 2m4f. Bleu Berry was progressive over hurdles last season which included a Grade 2 success at Fairyhouse but he may just need the run before aiming at similar targets in the spring. Preference, therefore, goes to MIND'S EYE, who has proven to be very progressive throughout the season and an 8lb rise for his most recent win looks more than fair. Others to consider include Ben Dundee, Midnight Stroll and Master Of Irony.

One of the new initiatives of the Dublin Racing Festival is the inclusion of two Graded bumpers and they have been rewarded with what looks a top class field on paper. Willie Mullins is responsible for Blackbow and Minella Encore, both of them winners over the Christmas period over C&D, with the former looking the first string on jockey bookings. However, he would need to settle a lot better against stronger opposition and he comes up against the exciting RAPID ESCAPE. Gordon Elliott's charge has won three bumpers this season, including a Listed contest at Navan just before Christmas, and was last seen in public working nicely with the highly-touted Samcro. Rhinestone and Brace Yourself were both extremely impressive on their most recent starts and are well worth their places in this field along with Village Mystic, who returns from just over two years off the track.
