ALTIOR is as short as 14-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and looked the real deal when beating Maputo there in the Grade 2 trial last month. Unbeaten over hurdles and bringing a good level of bumper form to the table, Nicky Henderson's charge has Simon Squirrel held and can continue on a steep upward trajectory. Marracudja is the choice of stable jockey Sam Twiston-Davies and could be the fly in the ointment with the prospect of improvement, while Open Eagle, the 2014 November Handicap winner at Doncaster, has to come into calculations representing Ireland's champion trainer Willie Mullins and on the back of a smooth success over timber at Fairyhouse.

Verdict
Individual Race Printouts

As usual this looks to be a highly-competitive handicap and the marginal preference is for SIRABAD, who showed a decent level of form over hurdles last season. He disappointed on his seasonal debut, albeit in a very hot contest, but he bounced back when chasing home a useful rival next time and he looks particularly attractive off a mark of 131. Unique De Cotte was arguably the best of these over the smaller obstacles and it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see him go very well today. Others that have to considered are Antony, Bekkensfirth and West Wizard.

Another select field line up for the prize won by subsequent Gold Cup hero Coneygree 12 months ago, and Native River sets a fair standard after his impressive success in a Grade 2 novice event at Newbury in November. There is a suspicion that chasing will bring out the best in TEA FOR TWO, though, as he was was scintillating on his fencing bow at Exeter and memorably demolished a classy field in the Lanzarote Hurdle at this track in January. The shortlist is completed by Southfield Royale, who has done little wrong over the bigger obstacles, and As De Mee, who cannot be underestimated for leading connections.

Top Tip: Tea For Two (6)
Watch out for: Native River (3)

A tactical race wouldn't play to NATIVE RIVER's strengths, but that slight worry aside, he looked a top prospect when seeing off the well-touted Un Temps Pour Tout at Newbury last month, and that performance sets the standard. Tea For Two looked a natural over fences at Exeter, so has to be feared, with Bally Beaufort perhaps the pick of the rest.

There were gasps aplenty when Champion Hurdle hero FAUGHEEN failed to reel in his stable companion Nichols Canyon in the Morgiana at Punchestown last month, tasting defeat for the first time in his career in the process. Winner of this race in effortless fashion 12 months ago (Sign Of A Victory well behind), Willie Mullins' superstar is expected to bounce back to winning ways with the son of Germany likely to have come forward for that first outing of the season. The New One finished a half-length second to My Tent Or Yours in the 2013 renewal but is held on the Champion Hurdle form and regular rider Sam Twiston-Davies prefers Old Guard. The Paul Nicholls improver is closely matched with Hargam on their exploits in the Grade 2 International Hurdle at Prestbury Park a fortnight ago but both will need to step up.

Top Tip: Faugheen (1)
Watch out for: Old Guard (3)

Last season's champion hurdler FAUGHEEN lost his unbeaten record in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on his return 6 weeks ago but the outing was probably needed and he can re-establish his dominance in the division and follow up last year's easy success. Old Guard is improving fast and is just preferred to The New One for the forecast.

Verdict
Individual Race Printouts

Al Ferof and Cue Card have both been beaten in multiple renewals of this race and despite showing good form recently, they will prove vulnerable for win purposes. The "next generation" should have this between them with DON COSSACK, who is on a five-timer, making the most appeal. He has turned a corner since the beginning of last season and he could not have been more impressive when beating Cue Card by 26 lengths at Aintree in April. Vautour will be a popular selection and if he is going to stay 3m it will be here, but he has enough questions to answer to make his price unappealing. Silviniaco Conti is another who looks to be underpriced but he is likely to make a bold bid to secure a hat-trick of wins in this race, while Valseur Lido could surprise a few at a big price.
