Nicky Henderson has won the last two renewals of this opener and Vaniteux looks another strong contender for the champion trainer after a winning debut under Rules at Sandown. However, DUBAI PRINCE, who was officially rated 114 on the level and is a Group 3 winner, posted an impressive introductory effort over hurdles when landing a Leicester event by six lengths last month and just gets the nod. Amore Alato got the better of Sgt Reckless at Wincanton, but the second-named horse caused a big upset when comfortably beating an odds-on favourite over track and trip, and he looks a big player.

ERICHT will need to produce a special performance to match his stable's victory in this race last year, but his chase debut behind a subsequent winner was most encouraging, and he is entitled to improve for that reappearance run. The selection beat Urbain De Sivola home when the pair were defeated over hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival, but that rival appeared to have appreciated the change of scenery when finishing second on his first start for new connections and can make an impact now he goes chasing. A 130,000 pound point winner, Western Warhorse is unexposed and can be on the premises on his first look at the bigger obstacles.

JUST A PAR looked a potentially top-class novice when beating Third Intention by 14 lengths in a Grade 2 at Newbury last month and on the evidence of that victory, he will be tough to beat here. Third Intention will obviously find it tough to reverse those placings, but he was the top-rated of these over hurdles and his third to Wonderful Charm two starts ago is strong form nonetheless. Green Flag was left in front when his main rival fell at Newcastle, but he is clearly progressive and can take the minor honours.

Nicky Henderson and JP McManus have monopolised this event in recent years, winning the last three renewals, and they appear to have a top contender in My Tent Or Yours. The son of Desert Prince exhibited some smart form in NH Flat company but his breakthrough performance came when he hosed up in the ultra-competitive Betfair Hurdle at Newbury, earning him favouritism in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, where he lost little in defeat as runner-up to previous Champion Bumper winner Champagne Fever. He hasn't put a foot wrong this season and will be tough to beat, but THE NEW ONE may just represent the toughest opponent he has met since going hurdling. Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge beat My Tent Or Yours in a Grade 2 NH Flat race in his first term and has not looked back since, producing some superlative performances which were topped by victory in the Neptune at the Cheltenham Festival, before producing arguably a career-best to finish second to a more experienced rival in Zarkandar at Aintree. He reversed that form at Cheltenham on his last start and thrashed former Champion Hurdle winner Rock On Ruby before then, so looks like he can take this before his assault on the Champion Hurdle. Sametegal was second in the Greatwood Hurdle last time and can take the minor honours.

Long Run joined exalted company when he regained his King George crown last year, but on the evidence of his two efforts this term, he may find it hard to hold on to his title. Cue Card allayed fears over his stamina to produce the performance of the season so far when landing the Betfair Chase at Haydock, making all in impressive fashion to win by four and a half lengths, and if he can produce a similar effort, he may be tough to stop. But with reports of a virus at the Tizzard yard a concern, it might pay to side with AL FEROF, who reached new heights with victory in the Paddy Power at Cheltenham last term before having his season curtailed by injury. He was ante-post favourite in many quarters for this event last year and having failed to disappoint on his reappearance, as well as potentially plenty more improvement to come, he is capable of giving a bold show here. Both Dynaste (second) and Silviniaco Conti (third) gave excellent accounts of themselves behind Cue Card at Haydock, and it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see them come on further, while sole Irish raider Mount Benbulben makes some each-way appeal on the evidence of his Punchestown victory in April, but will have to sharpen up his jumping.
