If POUVOIR is back to the form which saw him run Degas Art close at Aintree then he should take all the beating but he could not be a confident selection having run below par last time. Prince Ary faces a tougher task than at Fakenham, isn't certain to be suited by the softer ground and has a penalty to overcome but he cannot be dismissed lightly. The market should provide the best guide to the remainder but it would be no surprise to see Mous Of Men and Mr Excel attract interest on their hurdling debuts.

Swing Bill hasn't delivered as much as he's promised in two starts for current connections; he may yet do so but he's opposable here as a result. Ofarel D'Airy landed a penalty kick with the minimum of fuss last time but this will be a far better test of his credentials and the proven form of TROUBLE AT BAY is readily preferred. He made a most impressive debut at Hereford and this track will play to his strengths although he wouldn't want any more rain. Royal Shakespeare is also at his best on a sound surface and may need the ground to dry out a little more before he can get his head in front at this level.

An 8lb rise for the progressive PRINCELET's course and distance win is far from insurmountable and he should take all the beating as he bids to take another step forwards. The soft ground is the only cause of concern and, if he fails to act on it then Prime Contender could be the one to take advantage, although it was a little disappointing that he didn't fare better at Leicester. All the others have questions to answer at present and will need to find their best form if they going to mount a serious challenge.

Pantalaimon will fancy his chances of reversing form with BARBERS SHOP on revised terms (8lbs for 5 lengths) but there should be a great deal more to come from Nicky Henderson's exciting prospect. Triggernometry was a long way behind him in a Wincanton bumper and hasn't done enough over hurdles to suggest that he can reverse that form here. Secret Ploy has some class but may find this coming a little soon following his return from a lengthy break at Exeter and will be found easier opportunities. It's hard to assess the merit of dual Irish point winner Ballyvoge's comfortable Newcastle success but he is clearly talented and shouldn't be underestimated.

A difficult race to be bullish about with Seafield Bogie, Square Mile and Windy Hills all making their chase debuts here and it would be no surprise to see them improve on their form over timber in due course. There should be more to come from Sha Bihan whilst Ferimon, Bengo and Liberty Ben all warrant respect but a tentative vote goes to TALIKOS. He has made steady, if unspectacular, progress over fences but looked in need of a step up to this sort of trip last time and may be able to find sufficient improvement for this stiffer test to break his duck.

Racing Demon is thrown in on his chase form; he has bigger fish to fry though and is likely to be short enough in the market. Kenzo III is the obvious choice having won a decent contest at Hereford and it would be a surprise if he doesn't have enough left in the locker to win from a 7lb higher mark. Things don't always pan out as expected though and a chance is taken with CORPORTATE PLAYER who was sent off at a short enough price last time considering his absence. He has always been held in some regard by his patient connections and he may be able to reward them here. Cousin Nicky has solid each-way claims whilst a market move for Idole First would look significant; a case can be made for a number of the others but they all have questions of one sort or another to answer at present.
