VERY FIRST TIME was an impressive winner on his hurdles debut and this race is arguably weaker than that contest. A 7lb penalty for that success will make life tougher but he can be confidently supported today. The main danger looks to be Wazowski based on his two runs behind Baby Bach at Carlisle, while Irish point-to-point scorer Motion To Strike has shown moderate ability in three starts under Rules and looks to be the pick of the remainder.
It's difficult to oppose VERY FIRST TIME, who made a good start over hurdles when scoring under similar conditions at Newcastle last month, form which was franked when the runner-up won at the same course next time. This is less competitive than the novice events Wazowski has contested at Carlisle the last twice, and he earns the vote ahead of Motion To Strike for forecast purposes.

That 11-year-old looked sure to take a hand in the finish that day, although the winner won well enough to suggest that he probably would have been successful either way. Runswick Days has dropped back to his last winning mark, while Asuncion, Duhallowcountry and Rupert Bear also merit consideration.
ROSQUERO made plenty of headlines when unseating his amateur rider at Newcastle last time. He is not the most straightforward of individuals, but is taken to resume winning ways here. Asuncion and Mumgos Debut, who both profited from the selection's departure last time, look the main dangers.

GIBBSTOWN took his total of Hexham wins to three when scoring readily over this C&D last time and, with Jonathan Moore's valuable claim helping to cancel out a lot of her 9lb rise, she gets the vote to follow up. Flaming Thistle was five lengths back in second the last day and he could be Gibbstown's biggest danger again, although chances are also given to King Of The Dark, Brae On and The Bishop.
GIBBSTOWN has been successful on 3 of her 4 visits to this venue and is taken to defy a rise in the weights and confirm last month's C&D placings with fellow course specialist Flaming Thistle. Unlike so many, Ockey De Neulliac managed to get round in the Crabbie's Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree last time and the 14-year-old lost little in defeat when a head second at Carlisle the time before. He looks sure to run a big race but WICKLOW LAD shades the verdict. Neil Alexander's charge has been in fine form both in this sphere and between the flags and he is officially rated 5lb higher than the former. Wetherby third Grouse Lodge looks next best.
A good chance this will develop into a match between OCKEY DE NEULLIAC and Wicklow Lad. The former can be forgiven a poor round of jumping over the National fences at Aintree recently and a return to the form he showed when runner-up at Carlisle prior to that will probably see him come out on top.

Difficult to be overly confident about the chances of any of these but it might pay to side with ONLY A TIPPLE. He placed in one of his two starts between the flags and wouldn't need to be anything special to make a winning debut under Rules. Shy receives a handy lump of weight off her two opponents and she makes slightly more appeal than Ayr fourth Knocklayde.
ONLY A TIPPLE was pulled up between the flags last month, but had previously finished placed in that sphere, and is the selection by default given how little his rivals showed on debut.
