NATIVE OPTIMIST will arrive full of confidence following his breakthrough victory over this C&D and he might be able to strike again whilst the iron is hot. Other last-time-out winner Minella Hero warrants respect while Towcester runner-up Oscar Prairie cannot be ruled out either. The biggest threat, however, looks to be Stow, who backed up his Taunton victory with a solid placed effort behind a rejuvenated Tanerko Emery at Worcester.

STOW recorded his best run for a while when runner-up at Worcester recently, and is taken to make a winning start for Jo Hughes. Minella Hero did well to force a dead heat when conceding first run last time, and he looks the main danger, with Native Optimist respected, also.

Venue won readily over this C&D before disappointing at Aintree and he can easily be given another chance, but conceding 8lb to smart Flat recruit PENGLAI PAVILION is a big ask. John Ferguson's gelding has been rated as high 118 on the level having won four times in that sphere, including once in Listed company, and he could prove a class apart if taking to hurdles. Running Brook and Another Bygones both ran big races last time and make up the shortlist.

Watch out for: Venue (1)

VENUE came up short against some useful opposition at Aintree but is probably still the most solid option. Penglai Pavilion struggled to make an impact in good company on the Flat last year but is still a potentially useful recruit to hurdling, while Mercoeur should also be thereabouts if shrugging off a lesser effort last time.

OUR BOY BEN had a subsequent winner 24 lengths behind when scoring gamely at Sedgefield and a 7lb hike might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood. Gin Cobbler disappointed over the extended 2m4f here last time but was an impressive all-the-way C&D winner before that. He's clearly not the most reliable but will go close if on song, while Forestside has won twice over hurdles at this venue and hinted at a return to form latest.

Northside Prince doesn't look badly treated for his handicap debut while Master Of The Hall posted solid third-place finishes over both hurdles and fences last month. A case can also be made for Irish raider Flycorn and the first-time visored Silk Hall, but it could pay to side with the returning CLUES AND ARROWS. He was in cracking form around this time last year and finished off with a career-best effort at Cartmel in July. He has a 5lb rise to deal with but there might be more improvement to come.

Tony Kelly takes off a valuable 3lb in the plate and the son of Take Risks rarely runs a bad race. Of the others, Indalo Return should be thereabouts if building on his latest third-placed effort here, but Cartmel third King's Chorister brings winning distance form to the table and is feared most.
