A top-class stayer on the level, Percussionist has quickly made his mark over timber and gave the impression there is more to come when scoring over 2m at Wetherby latest. Although both hurdle victories have come on soft, he blotted his copybook when tried on really testing ground last month and LIVINGONAKNIFEDGE looks better suited to these conditions. The gelding opened his hurdling account over 2m in the mud before just finding 2m4f too far in a decent Wetherby contest and is improving with each outing.

Al Eile defeated Inglis Drever to land a Grade 1 over 2m4f at Aintree in April before switching to the flat and must be given win claims back over timber on that form. His best form has come on better ground, however, and the preference is for ARCALIS. Last season's impressive Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner returned with a comfortable 2m Grade 1 victory on soft in November and can take this en route to a crack at the Champion Hurdle. Faasel wasn't too far behind Harchibald in the Bula Hurdle latest and his winning form on heavy makes him a serious threat today.

Lord Transcend scooped this prize with ease last year in similar conditions and is sure to have his say again here, despite being 10lb higher than that victory. However, a well beaten second over C&D last month on his only outing since tempers enthusiasm and KINGSCLIFF deserves another chance. Robert Alner's Gold Cup hope was let down by his jumping in the King George but there is no doubting his class when he gets it right, something he did when coming home in front of a hot field over this C&D the time before. He can give plenty of weight away here if on top of his game.

An interesting contest despite the small field, in which New Alco will have plenty of supporters after opening his chase account with ease over 2m5f last month. A Grade 2 winner over timber in France, the line just came too soon for Don't Be Shy over 2m3f on his chasing bow and Martin Pipe's inmate will know more about it today. ESKIMO PIE hasn't been too far away on all three outings over fences, he loves it at the Merseyside venue (both hurdle wins came here) and it could be worth taking a chance on him as he will relish a return to the mud.

Baron Romeo boasts victories between the flags and in a bumper so it would be no surprise to see him in the thick of things on his hurdling bow, while the same can be said of Pontiff, who landed a NH flat race on his sole start. Liathroidisneachta will have learnt plenty from his hurdling bow but it's hard to oppose GLASKER MILL on his latest performance.
