Paul Nicholls' French recruit ALCALA is clearly held in high regard at home, having contest the Grade 2 Adonis on his UK debut, and the Vittel winner can make a successful return. There isn't much between Dunraven Storm, Puffin Billy and FAR WEST on hurdles ratings, all of whom make their chase debuts today, and what can only be described as a tentative vote is for the latter. Plenty in with chances in a wide-open handicap. Narrow preference is for FINANCIAL CLIMATE who, after bolting up in a small-field novice chase at Wetherby on his penultimate outing, was bitterly disappointing on his return to handicap company when last seen. It came to light afterwards that he had thrown a plate and he was clearly in discomfort from some way out, so that run is best forgotten. He has gone well fresh in the past and he likely has more to offer from this mark. Houston Dynimo went close to landing a Listed chase at Newton Abbot in August and he is entitled to plenty of respect. Perfect Candidate can go well on his return to chasing while Sixty Something merits serious consideration.

BAJAN BLU was narrowly denied at this venue over 2m1f last time and he can go one better now granted a stiffer test. He was momentarily outpaced before rallying that day, going down by half a length and pulling 12 lengths clear of a subsequent winner in third. This is far from straightforward, however, and Go West Young Man poses a serious threat on his reappearance. He has yet to get off the mark but has plenty of solid form to his name and a first success will surely come sooner rather than later. Worthy Award is open to improvement on just his third start for Jonjo O'Neill, while Jigsaw Financial arrives in winning form and can't be discounted.

This bumper has been won by some useful sorts in recent years and the betting market could prove a good guide as to what will unfold today with each of the 10 declared runners making their debut.
