COVERHOLDER was bought for 6,000gns out of the Tim Vaughan stable following his comfortable victory in a selling handicap hurdle at Catterick last time and, although an 11lb rise in the ratings looks harsh, he remains open to further improvement and is taken to strike again whilst the iron is hot. Goat Castle has been knocking on the door and should be in the shake-up once again, while Samtheman and Quite Sparky are others to note.

Coverholder could still have more to give and is selected to make a winning start for new handler Sue Smith. Marino Prince was in the process of running a big race when falling at Market Rasen last time and should go well, while Fitandproperjob hasn't had things go his way on both starts since winning at Folkestone and is worth one more chance to show he's still on a fair mark.

He ran right up to somewhere near his best when third in a competitive Pertemps qualifier at Warwick last time and a repeat performance is sure to see him in the thick of the action here. Midnight Oscar warrants plenty of respect on his handicap debut after gamely landing a novices' event over this C&D latest, while Powerful Ambition and Alberobello are others to consider.

Venetia Williams' inmate arguably produced his best effort yet when runner-up behind the progressive Pete The Feat (who has subsequently been placed in Grade 3 company) at Newbury last time and he looks sure to mount a bold bid lining up off the same mark here. Hunters Lodge is likely to give another good account, while Harris Hawk, Bounds And Leaps and Kaituna make up the shortlist.
