Rated 170 over hurdles and winner of the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2012, ROCK ON RUBY's participation in this two-runner novice chase event very much depends on how much rain falls on Town Moor. Harry Fry's charge boasts course-winning form over timber and although he's lacking in experience over the larger obstacles, the son of Oscar can build on a successful chase bow at Plumpton in December and use this as a springboard to a tilt at the Arkle in March. Fry will know where he stands with Mr Mole on a line through Rock On Ruby's stablemate Vukovar, whose colours were lowered by Paul Nicholls' charge at Warwick in December, but the selection should prove a class above if translating his hurdles form to this sphere on decent ground.

Portway Flyer is a C&D winner and although he arrives on a four-timer, this represents his toughest test yet. Mostly because VANITEUX has been handed a rating of 132 following two encouraging efforts under Rules for Nicky Henderson. Having gained some notable scalps in a similar race at Sandown on his debut in December, he recently finished fourth in a hot Kempton contest and looks to have the best form in the book. Gone Too Far, a Kempton bumper winner and a scorer over hurdles at Wetherby, is also taken seriously.

First Mohican, another useful performer on the level, makes his hurdling debut and warrants close consideration, along with Wetherby scorer Allied Answer. ELECTROLYSER looks the one to beat, however, as he left a moderate hurdling debut at Taunton behind when justifying favouritism at Plumpton on his return to action in December.

HARRY THE VIKING won twice on Town Moor before finishing second in the 4m National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in the 2011/2012 season and that course-winning form is sure to stand him in good stead here. Staying power is most certainly his forte and although he flopped when favourite here on his return to action in December, he's entitled to strip fitter for that run and he's come right back down to his last winning mark. Knock A Hand sets the standard and is pitched back into handicap company following his latest Grade 2 third at Haydock, while Fentara completes the shortlist.

Fentara looks a player with a clear round, but her usual mistakes were in evidence again at Newcastle and it could be worth chancing Golden Call, who shaped much better than the distance he was beaten suggests starting out for his new yard at Newbury. Fill The Power comes right into the thick of things if the rain continues to fall, while Mr Gardner is also interesting.

One Conemara is an interesting player on his first start since coming to grief in a competitive handicap at Cheltenham's Open Meeting in November, but TOP BILLING looks the safer option. He produced a career best performance when dotting up over C&D last month and a 16lb punishment may not be enough to stop him, as he remains open to plenty of improvement at this sort of trip. Stablemate Streams Of Whiskey reverts to hurdling following a couple of casualties over fences during November and he is more than capable if putting his best foot forward.

King Spirit is entitled to improve for his comeback second in novice company at Plumpton last month and warrants plenty of respect now sent handicapping, while Elenika is 1lb lower than when placed in a strong Wetherby handicap last month (first and second battled out a Sandown prize since) and found only one too good off this mark at Ludlow yesterday. The vote, however, goes to CLONDAW KNIGHT. He was most impressive when landing a 2m1f Kelso handicap on his chasing debut in November and a 12lb rise may not be enough to anchor with improvement likely.
