Western Xpress sets a fair standard on his runs last season, but he faces some interesting debutants over hurdles today and it would be no surprise to see one or two of them prove too good for him. One likely candidate to do just that is POTTERS CORNER, who picked up a bumper here before going on to finish third in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree's Grand National meeting in April. That run suggests that he could have the ability to be a useful novice hurdler this season and if that is to be the case then he must take all the beating. A couple of newcomers to note are Denboy, a half-brother to useful mare Polly Peachum and is closely related to Denman, and Tried And Tested, a full-brother to RSA Chase winner Cooldine.

TRIED AND TESTED is certainly the part on paper and he is taken to make a winning start for his top connections. Western Xpress shouldn't be far away, while Potters Corner and Denboy also appeal in what could be an informative maiden.

REGAL FLOW had been in good form earlier in the year and was still going well when falling two out over fences in March. His hurdles mark looks to be fair given he's rated 5lb higher over fences. Tobefair is unbeaten since joining his new yard after two wins at Worcester in June and July. Those were very moderate races and this requires a lot more, especially after a total 24lb rise in the handicap. Church Field received a lighter rise of 5lb for winning at Fontwell last month. He showed a good attitude that day and he is not one to be ruling out, while Ballyknock Lad is another interesting contender.

MARJU'S QUEST was impressive when winning a similar contest to this at Worcester last month but he disappointed at the same track last week. He was trying 2m7f for the first time that day and he clearly didn't see out the trip, so back at this distance he looks sure to go well. Synchronicity is an interesting contender from Ireland, as he was dropped into a decent race on the Flat on his return from a long break last time. He hasn't shown much form at all in his last few starts, but prior to that he won a good maiden hurdle at Thurles and was second to Wicklow Brave in a similar contest in early 2014. Tijori looks the pick of the remaining trio.

An interesting race which went to the Martin Keighley yard last season and MORTLESTOWN can make it back-to-back wins for the yard. A useful point-to-point performer in Ireland, he took his time to adjust to life over here but he has been impressive in putting in successive victories this summer. Ballykan easily dispatched a decent rival at Uttoxeter a couple of weeks ago, and while a mark of 129 is on the high side he is a progressive horse who represents powerful connections. Volcanic is another last-time-out winner who should not be discounted, while Derrintogher Bliss and Set List are also of interest.

BALLYKAN and Set List both impressed when making winning chase debuts, the former just shading the vote on handicap bow. Hat-trick-seeking Mortlestown is another to consider in what looks a competitive affair.

OSCAR JANE was third in a selling handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot recently and the form of that race, where the winner has won again since and the second is a solid performer at this level, suggests she should be more than capable of being involved today. Percys Choice would have a good chance on his third at Down Royal in May but it is hard to know what to expect from him on his first start for this yard. Taste The Wine was a winner on the Flat here recently and he can go well, while Peak Storm is also respected.

GOING NOWHERE FAST has been in top form recently and he followed up his easy 31-length success at Straford a couple of weeks ago with another good win at Uttoxeter six days later. He runs here under a 7lb penalty for that latest win and if his recent exertions haven't taken too much out of him then he should go well again. Maizy Missile was seven lengths behind him last time but with the selection now carrying a penalty she can get closer today, while Battlecat and Giant O Murchu look the pick of the rest.

NOT FOR YOU's form figures are hardly inspiring over fences, but he was in the process of running his best race to date before a chance-ending mistake at Hexham in June. Most of the form on offer here is moderate at best, but PETETHEPEAR's third at Tipperary in May looks quite solid, with the second and fourth having won since, and he has since joined a yard in decent form. Fact Of The Matter improved for his debut run when fourth at Fontwell in April and looks to be the biggest danger, while Desert Retreat is an interesting newcomer as he is closely related to Grade 1 winner Annacotty.
