Nicky Henderson saddled the winner of this race 12 months ago and he appears to have another cracking chance with BROADBACKBOB. This 142-rated hurdler made the perfect start to his chasing career when jumping accurately and readily disposing of the opposition at Plumpton last month and there is a chance he will improve for that first start since January. Rebel Rebellion wasn't disgraced when fourth in a Grade 2 prize at the Open Meeting here last month and he warrants plenty of respect now up in trip, while Super Duty and Hildisvini are no mugs either.

A fiercely competitive handicap in which DARK LOVER gets the tentative vote. He arguably stepped up on his C&D two months ago when seventh in a Grade 3 event here last time and having Ruby Walsh back in the saddle today (rode by a conditional jockey in each of his three hurdle starts thus far) is a positive. Quartz De Thaix arrives in the form of his life but whether he's quite up to this level is a doubt, while Planet Of Sound has a few questions to answer after running well below his best in the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase last month. The one to beat looks to be course specialist MIDNIGHT CHASE. He was some 12 lengths ahead of Philip Hobbs' charge at Wetherby and, although reported to be wound up for that assignment, Neil Mullholland's stable star gave the impression that he would come on for the outing. Back on his favourite track and likely to get a soft lead today, he should take some pegging back.

UNCLE JUNIOR has been rejuvenated by the switch to these cross country races over the past year or so and he looks sure to take all the beating today. Although having to concede lumps of weight to some useful opponents, Willie Mullins' 11-year-old oozes class and it's difficult to envisage anything beating him if he can reproduce the level of performance which saw him bolt up over this C&D last month. Arabella Boy just got the better of Bostons Angel at Punchestown 27 days ago and he should be able to confirm placings meeting on 5lb better terms here, while Maljimar could go well at longer forecast odds.

The Willie Mullins-trained Inish Island is a fascinating contender on his handicap debut after comfortably winning in maiden company at Downpatrick last time, especially as Ruby Walsh is on him rather than Saint Roque, who himself looks to have definite claims. The vote, however, goes to AT FISHERS CROSS. Judging on victories at Ffos Las and Newbury, he appears to have found another gear or two over the summer and stepping up to three miles for the first time today is unlikely to cause any problems. Sivola De Sivola has raced in snatches on both appearances so far this term so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to the fitting of blinkers.

A cracking novices' hurdle to round things off and EDUARD is taken to cause something of a shock result. Nicky Richards' four-year-old is very much heading in the right direction and the form of his head defeat at Newcastle two starts ago looks particularly strong with the winner from that race, Ifandbutwhynot, subsequently scoring at the Open Meeting here last month. Village Vic has something to prove after his lacklustre performance over 2m5f at the track almost four weeks ago, so Melodic Rendezvous, who chased home Champagne Fever in a Grade 1 bumper at Punchestown last season, rates the bigger threat.
