A few with chances, but it might pay to side with JOHNJAY. A C&D winner from 2lb lower in May, the Roger Teal-trained gelding has remained in fair form since, most recently finishing a creditable sixth in a class 2 at Chepstow. Drawn well, the ground-versatile five-year-old would appear to hold solid credentials. The veteran Poetic Force seldom runs a poor race here and can be expected to give his running once again. Never Dream and handicap debutant Strobelight are just two others to consider.
BEAR TO DREAM has been knocking on the door recently; with a 2nd place finish at this venue back in July, she has also placed on another occasion at this track on her penultimate start in August. Airside sets the standard with an official rating of 73 and is of considerable appeal back in a maiden, while market support for newcomer White Deer would have to make him of interest. However, preference is for ATTENTION SEEKER. Harry Eustace's charge made little impact on his debut but he wasn't dismissed in the betting that day and, now hooded, it would come as no great surprise were he to take a step forward.
This might not be the strongest of maidens; therefore, it could be a good opportunity for AIRSIDE to get off the mark at the 6th time of asking. Placing 3rd at Sandown last time out in what looks like a slightly stronger race on paper, he also sets the standard with the mark of 73, which should be enough to see him get his head in front. Plenty of experience to boot, he can put that to good use against some debutants or runners with just the one run to their names. This is his best opportunity to get his head in front, at a venue that his yard does pretty well at. Hala Samar came 4th of 7 runners at Yarmouth back in July; that looked like a pretty hot race (Radiance was the winner); therefore, she can run well in this, a slightly easier contest than her debut. And Rajendra is pretty nicely bred on paper; the yard are not known for their first-time-out winners, therefore he can settle for a 3rd place finish on his racecourse debut.

Having shown little in three qualifying runs, ARVANA BELLE took a giant leap forward to defeat Could Be The Move over C&D on her nursery debut last month. She's 3lb worse off with the runner-up, but she was in command towards the finish and is likely to progress further. Shetakesthegold took home the silver medal here a fortnight ago and ought to be in the thick of things once again.
A typically tricky Brighton nursery, SHETAKESTHEGOLD was a winner at Catterick off just a 2 lb lower mark than what she currently is, and with a good 2nd off a 1 lb higher mark last time, she can get her head back in front here. RICARDO PHILLIPS, Fighting Poet and Foinix are all bidding for a double, but preference is for the first-named after his Leicester triumph. The Henry Candy-trained four-year-old only has a 1lb higher rating to contend with and could kick on now. Fighting Poet travelled powerfully when scoring comfortably over 1m2f here and won't have any problems with this step back up in distance, so he rates as the main danger.
FIGHTING POET comes into this off the back of his 3rd career victory last time out, a 3 and a quarter length victory at this venue back in August. He was very keen to get on with things before the race, but that did not deter him as he soon powered clear in the closing stages. Just the 4 lb raise in the weights might not be enough to stop him here, as he has been mixing it up at this level previously. This is a similar contest to last time, and given his current form, he is the one they have to beat here. Silk And Steel has won once in four career runs on the flat, which was a victory in a class 6 contest at this venue back in early August. He is just 2 lbs higher in the weights here, and another bold bid is expected from the Gary & Josh Moore horse. And Foinix is another course and distance winner from last time, with a 4 lb raise in the weights to deal with, and coming up against some in-form rivals, he can settle with filling the places in this.

Kranjcar is sure to have his supporters after supplementing his second course success here with victory over this trip at Lingfield. However, a further 5lb penalty might open the door for TENBOB TOMMY. The four-year-old was far from disgraced in fifth in a warmer event over a mile at Newbury and the assessor may have been kind to drop him 1lb. This is just his second handicap outing and he could have more to offer. Silent Flame completes the shortlist.
KRANJCAR arrives into this contest bidding for the hattrick of victories, a win at this venue off the mark of 57 at the start of this month. He then went on to back that up with a nice winning effort at Lingfield on the all-weather and is now 10 lb higher in the weights since he first started winning. Winning course form, which stands for a lot when it comes to Brighton, and the fact Jack Callan gets on incredibly well with this horse would suggest they are the ones to beat in this small field contest. Blue Collar Lad has plenty of experience to boot and was a winner at Lingfield back in June; he has placed on a few occasions since then. Danger Alert offered plenty of encouragement with his second at Epsom and must enter calculations. However, he hasn't always been the most reliable when breaking from the stalls and it could be worth chancing HAVANA GILA. Harry Eustace's filly lurks on an attractive mark and a rain-softened surface may enable a return to form. Court Of Session is also worth a second look dropping back in distance.
George Baker's DANGER ALERT was creeping down the handicap before producing a 2nd place finish at this venue earlier this month; sliding down from a mark of 84+ last season, he now looks to be pretty well handicapped. Only beaten by a length last time after a good ride on the winner, he did pull a further 2 lengths clear of the 3rd place horse, who happened to be the short-priced favourite. Now raisingthe weights after that effort means he can go well here and get his head in front for the very first time since May 2023. Court Of Session is another one creeping down the weights with each run; once rated in the 90s in his earlier days, he was rated 82 at the start of 2025 and is now all the way down to a mark of 58. He could be well handicapped now and will run well in this but might have to settle with a 2nd place finish here. And The Organiser won off the mark of 70 in March; now 6 lbs lower than that mark, he could be primed and ready to strike, but given his form, he might have to settle with filling the places in this race.

Having proved a different proposition since racing with cheekpieces, BARNSNAPE BOY could be capable of completing a hat-trick. Jim Boyle's charge made all over C&D 15 days ago and scored with enough in hand to suggest that an 8lb hike isn't unduly harsh. Unico arrives on the back of a solid third here and, off an unchanged mark, may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Dreambird Dolly.
The form that BARNSNAPE BOY has been in at the minute has been excellent, and he is arguably in the best form of his life so far. With a victory at Lingfield on his penultimate start back in August, he then went on to back that effort up with a nice success when making all at this venue in a similar contest to this last time just two weeks or so ago. An 8 lb hike in the weights after that success from last time is a fair raise, but given how he made all and soon powered clear inside the closing stages, looking comfortable in the process, he could easily continue his progression here and land the hattrick. Call Time was a winner last time out when sent off as a short-priced favourite at Chepstow; a 5 lb raise in the weights might not be enough to stop him running well here. However, he might have to settle with coming 2nd behind a hat-trick-seeking rival. And Secret Handsheikh has been in decent form recently; he can go well and claim 3rd spot for connections.
