It is very difficult to oppose ZUIDER ZEE here. A useful performer on the flat, he made a pleasing debut, behind Minella Forfitness, over 2m4f at Doncaster last month and that form looks very solid indeed. Providing the drop in trip does not catch him out, he should win. Hallmark Star has been knocking on the door and he should find an opening before long. Titus Bolt could fare best of the remainder.

Green Flag has made a more than useful start to his career over hurdles, gracing the winning enclosure on three separate occasions, and he's more than capable of shouldering top weight against these rivals if on a going day. BEEVES is the most unexposed of these, however, and he beat Lucinda Russell's charge on his racecourse debut in a Hexham bumper last April. Within a length and a half of African Gold in a novice event at Wetherby two starts ago, that form stacks up and he's forgiven his Aintree exploits on softer ground most recently. SPIRIT OF A NATION ran well to grab second over 2m6f here last month and although he has crept up 2lb in defeat, the drop back in trip could elicit some improvement and he looks Jim Goldie's strongest contender. Stablemate A Southside Boy stayed on well for fourth after the winner had flown at Wetherby last time and cannot be written off either, despite the fact he's 6lb out of the handicap. Cool Baranca is well treated on his best form while there could be better to come from the unexposed Romany Ryme, who now drops in trip.

It could pay to side with last-time-out winner SILVER STEEL in the finale.
