A very tricky contest to open the card with plenty in with chances. That said, preference is for WYLDE MAGIC, who chased home the useful Geordie Des Champs in a novice hurdle at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago and he may be underestimated by an opening mark of just 116. Ballinure found the drop back to 2m too sharp for him last time and he is one to note over this trip, while Red Infantry and Walt are others who are entitled to consideration.
RED INFANTRY was far from disgraced when fourth at Cheltenham a month ago having helped contribute to a good gallop, and though his new mark has kicked in, he should be very competitive. Walt is a likely improver on handicap debut, while Thursday's Exeter winner Trans Express would be a massive player under a penalty if allowed to take his chance.

TOP NOTCH has proved to be a smart acquisition to chasing since improving for his first run at Uttoxeter in one of the strongest contests seen this season, where he was third behind Charbel and Le Prezien. Wins at Warwick and Plumpton both showcased his fast accurate jumping and the step up in distance shouldn't prove to be any concern for the son of Poliglote, as his progeny tend to improve over longer distances. Caid Du Berlais returns to chasing after pulling up in the fixed brush race at Haydock on ground he would have hated and the former Paddy Power Gold Cup winner can give the selection something to think about. Hammersly Lake will appreciate a sounder surface having chased home Le Prezien at Cheltenham last month.
TOP NOTCH has made a good start in this sphere, adding to his tally in good style at Plumpton last month. He looks sure to do better still and gets the nod to continue on an upward curve as he gains more experience. Stablemate Hammersly Lake and Caid du Berlais can give him most to do.

An interesting contest on paper with several of these lightly raced over the larger obstacles and open to plenty of improvement. Dark Flame won well on his chase debut last month at Sandown and the form of that contest has since taken a boost with the runner-up More Buck's coming out and winning again. A 10lb rise shouldn't be enough to stop him being competitive but preference goes to OVERTOWN EXPRESS, who caught the eye on his return when third behind Top Notch at Plumpton and should strip fitter for that experience here. Ultragold and Raven's Tower shouldn't be too far away on the evidence of their latest outing at Newbury's Hennessy meeting, while Orbasa disappointed at Aintree but it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him bounce back to form.
Plenty in with a shout in a very open race. PULL THE CHORD made a solid start to his chasing career when second to a subsequent winner at Ludlow and can build on that and strike for the Philip Hobbs/Richard Johnson combination. The Colin Tizzard pair Dusky Lark and Ultragold and Harry Fry's potential improver Overtown Express head the many possible dangers.

Most of these want really soft/heavy ground to be at there very best but UNOWHATIMEANHARRY has already proven himself to be a high-class stayer under all sorts of conditions. He won the Albert Bartlett back in March on good ground and he looked to have improved again when an impressive winner of the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury last month on soft. Ptit Zig remains unexposed over 3m and he only found Thistlecrack too good on his sole try over this distance in the UK. Ballyoptic is one for those looking for an each-way alternative as he is sure to be thereabouts but may find one too good, while similar comments apply to Lil Rockerfeller. Un Temps Pour Tout and Zarkandar also merit respect.

A typically competitive renewal of the race formerly known as the Ladbroke sees Dan Skelton attempt to win this for the second time in his short career and Meet The Legend looks his standout chance having shown a more than respectable level of form in three starts over hurdles last season. The first-time tongue tie could bring about further improvement from the son of Midnight Legend but he is passed over in favour of recent Sandown winner BRAIN POWER. Nicky Henderson has won this three times since the race's inception since 2001 and this strong traveller was arguably value for further despite his stablemate Consul De Thaix closing late on that day. A 7lb rise in the weights is more than fair and the booking of David Mullins is notable. Consul De Thaix merits plenty of respect himself, as he is entitled to come forward for his return outing and for a stronger pace which should help his jumping, along with the dead-heaters from 12 months ago, Jolly's Cracked It and Sternrubin. Others worthy of consideration include Golden Spear, who looks on a potentially lenient mark, Wolf Of Windlesham, who was travelling well when falling two out in the Greatwood, and Diego Du Charmil, who can be forgiven his last outing and is another who should thrive for an end to end gallop.
