VINTAGE VINNIE won despite himself when pulling hard in a Ludlow bumper recently and the application of a first-time hood might help him settle more effectively. He gets a tentative vote over Champagne Present, who makes his debut under Rules but scored by 10 lengths in a point-to-point in April 2014 and was subsequently purchased for 210,000 pounds at the sales. The penalised pair from Donald McCain's yard, Mr Burgees and Sealous Scout, are proven over hurdles and deserve plenty of respect, while The Last Euro is a 90,000-euro buy from the pointing field and is worth a market check.

Watch out for: Champagne Present (3)

Donald McCain's pair set a pretty decent standard, but this may well go to one of the hurdling debutants. Without the benefit of market clues, a chance is taken on Vintage Vinnie who landed a Ludlow bumper earlier this month. Expensive-purchase Champagne Present may prove the biggest threat.

Unanimite made a winning start to life over hurdles at Market Rasen and warrants a spot near the top of the shortlist. That success came in a class 2 race so he has a 10lb penalty here, whereas STARCHITECT only has a 6lb penalty after winning by six lengths at Bangor. The Sea The Stars gelding might be worth a chance at the forecast prices. Witch From Rome is no forlorn hope as he already looks better over hurdles than he did on the Flat and was only half a length behind a future winner on the level at Huntingdon.

Watch out for: Unanimite (1)

Not much to choose between Unanimite and Starchitect on Flat form and what they achieved when making a winning debut over hurdles, but the former looked more of a natural over the obstacles so gets the vote on that basis.

BAILEYS CONCERTO has enjoyed back-to-back successes over hurdles since he landed a Kelso chase earlier in the year and looks the one to side with back over the bigger obstacles. Distime hasn't been seen since he was brought down at Market Rasen on Boxing Day but he was runner-up in a similar race on this card last year and would be a major player if bouncing back to form. Cobajayisland won on his first look at fences and looks open to further progression as former point winner, while Classic Move is worth a market check despite disappointing when favourite at Carlisle.

Watch out for: Distime (4)

Distime remains lightly raced in this sphere and figures on a lower mark than when a fairly useful hurdler back in 2011/12. He's gone well fresh previously and could be worth chancing on his latest comeback. The thriving Baileys Concerto is an obvious player back over fences, while Cobajayisland remains with potential after scoring at Hexham a fortnight ago.

PARSNIP PETE relished the switch to a flatter track when he landed a valuable Grade 3 on his first try over this C&D in April and it is best to forget his run at Punchestown where he unseated his rider. Furthermore, he won when fresh last season so he looks the one to side with. Valco De Touzaine is unexposed on just his seventh start over fences and might be worth a try in a first-time hood, while Doeslessthanme is entitled to strip fitter for his seasonal reappearance at Fontwell. Nikos Extra is upped in grade after success at Wetherby and Dunowen Point looks ominously poised at the foot of the weights after finishing runner-up at Sedgefield.

UPSWING beat a highly progressive handicapper in Rydon Pynes when last sighted at Newbury and gave the impression that he had plenty in hand off a mark of 128. A 4lb rise looks lenient, given the second subsequently won at Chepstow, and he won on his seasonal bow last year at Carlisle. Uncle Jimmy is the class horse in the race and won impressively on his return to action at Newton Abbot, while Dawn Commander is the sole C&D winner in the field following his six-length romp here in May and he's taken seriously as well.

The booking of Jason Maguire for Supreme Asset suggests he represents the yard's first string, but Donald McCain's horses aren't exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment so he and Our Mick might be best watched. Lamool bowed out in good form at Ludlow in April and is interesting on his return, but SHADRACK gets the nod on the basis that he won in effortless fashion at Sedgefield in May and that was his first try over 2m4f.
