Expert Analysis
A race won by Faugheen, Penhill and Fury Road – all of them ultimately smart performers or better – in recent years, but also by some less-memorable types. The form this year looks useful, rather than better, with 2 of the remaining 5 failing to run up to their best, but it was a good test on deep ground and with a fair pace.
FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU (h142 here, 138 previously) showed a good attitude to make it 3 wins out of 3 at around this trip this season, likely to do better still faced with a thorough test. He raced mostly in second, was ridden to lead approaching 2 out and gradually got on top, kept up to his work.
LETSBECLEARABOUTIT (h138 here and previously) ran creditably, probably better than he had done against Hiddenvalley Lake in a more steadily run race at Cork the time before, leading until approaching 2 out and keeping on.
HARRY DES ONGRAIS (h135 here and previously) ran creditably again with no obvious excuses, racing in third but one paced before he made a mistake at the final flight.
JUNGLE PROSE (h123 here, 134 previously) had form in a handicap the time before that suggested she should be a contender but ran poorly, held up and making little impression when asked.
KALANISI STAR (h129 here, 142 previously) is not the easiest to assess, but his Gowran maiden win has to be better than this, as he was held up, the first off the bridle and merely plugged on. He had looked likely to stay well previously.
