Expert Analysis
This looked a rather weak Ribblesdale beforehand, but a number stepped forward, not least the winner, who put up a slightly better than average performance for the race in scoring decisively. The runaway leader, Island Hopping, was ignored, even when about a dozen lengths clear, and the pace otherwise was just respectable, the winner’s final 2f of 24.41s producing a 102.0% finishing speed.
GARDEN OF EDEN (111 here, 99 previously) took off on her first attempt at 12f, strong at the finish and likely to get further still if required. She raced close up in the main group, was being niggled over 4f out but really hit her stride turning in, leading well over 1f out and clearing away inside the final 1f. This represents smart form, just about, and there are not many better 12f 3yo fillies around at present.
UNDERSTUDY (106 here, 86 previously) was pitched in deep on the back of a Southwell novice win and improved plenty, settling well in mid-field before staying on well. A daughter of Sea The Stars, she looks like staying 14f.
CATALINA DELCARPIO (105 here, 103 previously) ran creditably without improving as much as might have been anticipated, not quite as strong a stayer as the 2 who beat her, travelling well in mid-field before improving to lead briefly over 2f out (went odds on in running), no extra late on.
GO GO BOOTS (103 here, 100 previously) ran just about her best race in first-time blinkers, taking a while to settle but seeing things out pretty well.
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL (102 here, 98 previously) over-raced early but still managed to run well.
SERENITY PRAYER (100 here and previously) matched her Musidora form without entirely convincing with her stamina, no extra and putting her head up somewhat late on.
