THEY CALL ME HUGO struck at the first time of asking under Rules at Ffos Las and then took a major step forward when pipped in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham's December meeting. If progressing again, he should claim this prize and possibly even book his ticket for something like the Albert Bartlett. Swindon Village made it second-time lucky over hurdles at Leicester and the runner-up has boosted the form by going one better. Moneygarrow also accounted for a subsequent winner when successful at Warwick and should be in the thick of the action too.
A useful novice hurdle in which the ground could determine the outcome. On a sounder surface Moneygarrow would earn the vote as he's got a bit of speed and has breathing issues, while the manner in which he dispatched of a smart sort at Warwick last time was impressive. On soft ground, which it's forecast to be, then THEY CALL ME HUGO is the selection. He just missed out in a Grade 2 over 3m at Cheltenham last time, looking a strong stayer, and he might outlast Moneygarrow if this becomes a test. Swindon Village is a potential improver up in trip but he has a bit to find with the two already mentioned.

GAMESTERS GUY turned over a red-hot favourite in a Doncaster match and is expected to have a lot more to offer. The seven-year-old has been set some stiff assignments in his relatively short career to date, but hasn't done a great deal wrong. He is preferred to Guard The Moon, who made a race-ending blunder at Newbury following a successful chasing bow and it is that Aintree display which makes him of interest. King Of Answers put an ordinary first effort over fences behind him when going in at Kelso, although he will find this a lot tougher.
Lucinda Russell ran subsequent Ultima winner Myretown in this race 12 months ago - he was still in front when falling three out - and KING OF ANSWERS may be able to gain compensation for the same yard this time around. He took a nice step forward when winning at Kelso last time, appreciating the step up to a staying trip, and he surely has much more in the locker. Gamesters Guy, like the selection, took a step forward from his chase debut when beating a really useful rival in a match race at Doncaster and should have more to offer now handicapping, so rates the danger, with the others, headed by Queensbury Boy, looking up against it.

BE AWARE had the unenviable task of chasing home Lulamba in the Henry VIII but he stuck to his guns well and although expected to be most effective over further, he possesses the necessary pace for this task. Alnilam's jumping let him down in that Sandown Grade 1, and again in the Wayward Lad at Kempton when Hansard was a couple of positions ahead of him in second. No Questions Asked could only manage third when sent off favourite for an Ascot Grade 2, but he travelled well and is interesting now back at 2m.
This should prove straightforward for BE AWARE, who couldn't match Arkle favourite Lulamba in the Grade 1 Henry VIII at Sandown but can be expected to take a lead on this drop in grade and make his class count in the straight. The drop to 2m might work in the favour of No Questions Asked, who was too keen over further at Ascot last time, but he still has a bit to find with the selection, while Alnilam did well considering a notable blunder at Kempton last time but his jumping has started to become an issue and he won't get away with errors in this either.

ALFIE'S PRINCESS was returning from a lengthy break when winning over this trip at Wincanton on Boxing Day and Sam Thomas' mare can follow up here, despite a 5lb rise. Hollygrove Cha Cha also struck on her most recent outing and she could prove to be the main threat to the selection. Largy Force and Bluey are others who are capable of going very well.
HOLLYGROVE CHA CHA was getting off the mark over fences when readily beating Bluey at Exeter a month ago and, despite being 6lb worse off at the weights, she's taken to confirm the form. She does have a tendency to jump left, but was a classy Grade 2-winning hurdler and can surely rate higher yet over fences. Bluey is likely the danger once more, with her having undergone a wind op since Exeter. Third on the list in Largy Force, a winner at Uttoxeter last time and still looking competitively weighted.

All of these have claims, but none more so than last year's winner NEMEAN LION. Kerry Lee's gelding also claimed the National Spirit at Fontwell and was far from disgraced when a close third in the Fighting Fifth on his return in November. That level of form may well be good enough, although Potters Charm should not be discounted back at this sort of trip. The seven-year-old ran well in the Long Walk and this is arguably his easiest task in quite a while. Take No Chances is another who may be better off now dropped back from 3m.
A tight race to call. The mare Take No Chances has been performing with real credit against the likes of Strong Leader and Impose Toi over 3m and she won't have any issue with this drop in trip, but the admirable NEMEAN LION might be able to make it back-to-back wins in the race. He's as tough as they come and looked as good as ever when a close third in the Fighting Fifth on reappearance. The step back up in trip should suit and he rates the one to beat. Potters Charm remains capable of better and may prove suited by the drop in trip, having failed to stay 3m in the Long Walk at Ascot.

Dan Skelton saddles a quarter of the field and, on jockey bookings, Live Conti would appear the main hope, although he raced far too keenly on his return in a valuable handicap at Ascot. Great Fleet, who has proven versatile with regards to distance, and LISTENTOYOURHEART both make plenty of appeal and it is the latter who gets the vote following a tough success here over 2m4f on New Year's Day. Heidi Palin's 7lb claim negates her 5lb rise and that effort suggested she had more in the locker. Wilful won the aforementioned Ascot contest just before Christmas and isn't discounted off 7lb higher, while the progressive Saligo Bay deserves his chance in a race of this nature.
This is highly competitive and several need considering, with SPECTACULARSUNRISE leading the list. The Twiston-Davies runner was quite impressive in a Kelso handicap before bumping into a smart novice at Chepstow and he strikes as the sort to relish the hustle and bustle of a big-field handicap. We know Bubble Dubi is improving and he must have a chance again in his bid for a hat-trick, although it wouldn't surprise if either Great Fleet, a maiden hurdle winner last time and representing a top yard, or his stablemate Live Conti, better than the result on his return, stepped up enough to get seriously involved.

Hold Up La Colmine finished third in this contest 12 months ago and returned to Windsor with a wide-margin success in November. That said, his jumping wasn't particularly fluent and a bigger field could find him out. The vote goes to AS THE FELLA SAYS, who is the sole runner on the card for Nicky Henderson and has taken well to fences, placing at Southwell and Cheltenham. The drop in trip seems ideal judged on the latter display, as his finishing effort petered out on the run-in, and the seven-year-old has every chance of giving Nico de Boinville a winner on his return. Impatient, Westerninthepark and Joe Cotton are others to consider.
There's surely more to come from AS THE FELLA SAYS as a chaser. He still looked to be learning when placed at Cheltenham last time and he has enough speed to cope with the slight drop in distance. His mark of 116 is still appealing. Storminhome looks capable of much better than he showed on reappearance now upped in trip, so rates the danger, while the in-form Impatient and Westerninthepark, whose mark is easing, are others who need considering.
