MR MOLE followed up his bumper victory by striking on his hurdles bow and first run for his present owner over a similar trip at Exeter last month. He was a bit sloppy with his hurdling at times but travelled well and is expected to improve with that initial experience under his belt. Kings Lad hinted a return to this trip would suit at Newton Abbot latest and has place claims while money for Philip Hobbs' newcomer Kap Gun would be interesting.

Watch out for: Kings Lad (8)

Mr Mole was very impressive on his hurdling debut at Exeter and can maintain his unbeaten record. Kings Lad and Jojabean look best of the rest of form, though it would also no surprise if the Hobbs newcomer Kap Gun was capable of getting involved.

Paul Henderson's charge has been handed an 8lb rise by the assessor but rates the one to beat in his present mood regardless. Knapp Bridge Boy beat Roll The Dice with ease at Exeter last time and both have place claims. The main danger, however, is Henry San, who could improve for this extra furlong.

All Annalena, fit from a spell on the Flat, landed a Ludlow maiden over a similar trip in January and looks on a workable mark now making her handicap bow over timber. Preference, however, is for seasonal debutant VIOLIN DAVIS, winner of a Grade 2 mares hurdles at Ascot in January and who showed she goes well fresh when winning this race last year. Coronea Lilly continues on an upward curve and is another to consider.

Watch out for: All Annalena (6)

A useful and open-looking mares handicap in which fitness will likely prove crucial given many are making their reappearance. Natural Spring isn't one of those, though, and she may represent a bit of value after shaping much better than her finishing position at Cheltenham last month. Violin Davis and Prima Porta are feared most.

Paul Nicholls has a strong record in this race and landed the prize with the exciting Silviniaco Conti 12 months ago. This year's representative POUNGACH needs to bounce back from his early fall at Chepstow recently but got to within two lengths of Oscar Whisky (albeit in receipt of 8lb) over hurdles and may be worth a second chance over fences. Worcester winner Houblon Des Obeaux and classy hurdler Court In Motion, who returns from a long break, are others considered.

ZARKANDAR was a dual Grade 1 hurdles winner as a novice and although he fell when last sighted at Aintree in April, he's given another chance now eased in grade and back over his best trip. Stablemate Prospect Wells, who showed some fair novice form last year and Balder Succes, who fell in last season's Triumph Hurdle, look to pose the biggest threats. Winner of a Listed handicap at Market Rasen in September, Local Hero is also shortlisted.

Baby Mix has his quirks but appears to have ideal conditions here and with the benefit of a pipeopener 3 weeks ago is given the nod over Balder Succes, who needs to brush up his hurdling, and the Nicholls' pair Zarkandar and Prospect Wells, both of whom may find this test too sharp on their seasonal returns.

Paul Nicholls has won three of the last four renewals of this race with Cornish Sett (2008), Meanus Dandy (2010) and The Minack (2011) so this year's duo Michel Le Bon and No Loose Change are immediately respected. Preference, however, is for 2010 Hennessy winner DIAMOND HARRY, who is undeniably fragile, but goes well fresh, has been dropped 6lb since his last start and rates the one to beat now dropped sharply in grade. C&D winner Golden Chieftain completes the shortlist after an impressive victory at Worcester last month.

The talented but fragile Diamond Harry was the subject of strong support prior to his withdrawal from last week's Charlie Hall Chase, so it wouldn't be a big surprise to see him go well, but preference is for Michel Le Bon, who remains with untapped potential as a chaser. The progressive Golden Chieftain is greatly feared, alongside the returning Zarrafakt.
