SAND CANYON was doing his best work in the closing stages when placed in a tougher contest on turf here last time but the return to dirt should hold fears and Chris Landeros is a positive jockey booking. Brother Brother has shown a good turn of foot on this surface and should be thereabouts, while Sir Chester was placed in a similar heat over C&D latest and has each-way claims again today.
CORPORAL TILLMAN has been finding it hard to win recently but he is a consistent performer at this level and is the percentage call in a tricky contest. The selection is a dual winner at this track and his turn should come sooner rather than later. Sendero comes out on top on the stopwatch and is respected for the powerful Dan McFarlane yard. Last time-out winner Renegade Cielo rates best of the remainder.
FORTUNE GAME had Tricky Truce and Windy Cash behind when runner-up over a furlong shorter around here last time and is fancied to go one better with the in-form Glenn Corbett in the plate for the first time. Vintage Lace scored over a mile here latest but this looks tougher and the speedy Windy Cash might give the selection most to do.
The stopwatch gives Matt The Mighty the edge but he has not been at his best in two starts after a long lay-off and SUMMER PRIMA is preferred. Kristina Kenney's mount only failed by a head in a tougher heat over C&D last time and a similar effort should see her go close today. Michael Pierce has a good record with his new recruits so it would be no surprise to see Gunmetal involved at the business end.
The well-bred newcomers Social Lady and Craftynthefastlane merit a check in the betting ring, but preference is for the more experienced STEVE'S GIRL. Dam McFarlane's filly probably found the trip against her when fading over a route distance last time but she has recorded some creditable times on dirt and might find this drop to five-and-a-half furlongs more to her liking.
This could go to TROPIC PASS as she takes a significant drop in class. She's been far from disgraced in better company so far and has shown good early speed in all three public displays. Textme hails from an in-form barn and is another lowering her sights, but the lightly-raced 7yo Miss Westchester could pose the selection most problems.
Gold Bankers Gold and Nautical Candy are set to resume their battle having been quite closely matched over track and trip last month, but this could go the way of NIGHT DASH. He's been a shade outclassed on turf in his latest couple of outings but drops in class today and can get his campaign back on the rails.
POTUGESE WOMAN sets the standard here and barring the dramatic improvement of one of today's rivals, Clay Brinson's filly can land a second career success. She was only 3 lengths off the winner when fourth over an extended 7f at Hollywood Park last month and lowers her sights today. Shes Swiss and Soakin It Up are totally unexposed and won't go down without a fight.
Leading Brave has not been at his best this term but has to be respected on the pick of last season's form, but it could be worth taking a chance on CORPORATE CURE whose early pace gives him every chance round here. If returning to his very best, Kevin Harper's 8yo could make light work of this. Johnny McArthy is another to consider in what looks a wide-open contest.
