Crashin Corona Kid had both Count On Glass and Catch The Fly behind when winning here last time but GUS CORONA has looked an improved performer on his last two starts and looks capable of confirming recent superiority over Helens Straw Hat. Snowbound Dream is a recent winner who should go close again.
LOOK CLOSELY showed a big improvement on his first start for Troy Bainum's barn when runner-up over 5 1/2f here last time and is difficult to oppose given his trainers strike-rate. He has the beating of Commendable Miss and a newcomer such as Bull Has Speed could prove a bigger threat.
Ceebegone showed plenty of promise when winning on her debut over six and a half furlongs a year ago but hasn't been seen out since and may need the run tonight. Tocha has had her problems, racing just once since February but takes a big drop in class today and has been working well at home. If fully wound-up, she'd take all the beating a safer bet today could be SERAMOVA, a very easy C&D winner last time when dropped to this grade.
Sanders, Big Ed, Ranger Joe and Corredor Del Oro are interesting newcomers and should be monitored in the betting, but the safest bet may be ORGAN PIPE. Mike Stewart's gelding improved on his opener to fill the runner-up spot (Lee Valley ninth) over slightly shorter here latest and there should be more in the locker.
At The Time and Serra Lee Trail both found only one too good last time out and look sure to have their say again, although the preference is for PURPLE SLURPLE. Dan McFarlane's inmate is used to mixing in better company and was successful in a higher grade on his penultimate outing, so the drop in class today could be a successful one.
Vermont Riot should be in the shake-up if showing her good early speed but she's looked a shade too inconsistent this term and isn't worth maximum faith. A safer option could be to follow the in-from SHEZA CATS MEOW who has been far from disgraced in defeat of late and scored over 7f in similar company in September. Greygoose Rox and Classy Ole may have to settle for minor honours.
DIGIT DANCER looks set to record a seventh career success here, at the chief expense of Bill Breashear's Special Truce. The selection represents a trainer/jockey combination that are flying at present and his early speed will make him very difficult to beat over this sharp trip. Chickster was beaten by Elbe on his last two outings but may be able to reverse that form on a return to his favoured distance.
A repeat of SENDERO's latest third could be enough to see him land the top honours in this contest and his speed figures on dirt compare favourably with the majority of the field. Taft represents an in-form trainer and jockey and won his last race so has to be on the short-list along with Trail Striker and Ozzy's Shame.
Not many horses have been winning from the rail post of late but DISTANT MOON may be able to buck that trend here following his game and narrow success over Royal Lake last month. Sports Tour and Nite Works have claims of reaching the frame but it would be no surprise to see Seven Charms emerge as the biggest danger on his first run for the in-form Keith Bennett barn.
Lil Eagle's stop-start career is yet to take off but she's shown signs of ability and could be thereabouts. LADY OF STEEL and Sheezexotic were second and third in a similar context over C&D last month but, while the former went down by a neck, the latter trailed in some 8l further back. The former should not only confirm the placings but go one better today.
