HERJA looked set to open her account before falling two out over an extended 2m3f at Bangor in July and it would be no surprise to see Patrick Griffin's mare make amends on this occasion. Kottayam is another with strong form claims but has to bounce back from a Market Rasen spill, while Lipstick Traces and Voodoo Angel are the pick of the remainder.
HERJA was most likely the winner when falling two out at Bangor last time out, travelling strongly throughout. She did jump slightly right during the race, and her jumping has been a slight issue in her recent runs; however, I would imagine she is learning with each run and that will get better. 2nd on her two runs before that, she was beaten by two favourites in those two runs, and if all is ok after her fall from last time, she should be taking a contest of this nature pretty easily given her experience over hurdles. Lipstick Traces placed in all three of her bumper runs and was a solid enough 4th of 15 runners on hurdle debut at Worcester last time out. She will know her job a lot more here but might have to settle with coming second behind what will no doubt be a red-hot favourite in Herja. And Voodoo Angel came 4th on her stable debut last time out at Market Rasen; she will no doubt build on that here and fill the places for her new connections.

The consistent IVANE hit the crossbar over 2m7f at Worcester last weekend and James Owen appears to have found an ideal opportunity for the seven-year-old to go one better. Luminaries has won four of his last six starts and should not be discounted, despite an underwhelming effort at Perth last time. Recent Market Rasen second Couldbeaweapon is another to consider.
James Owen's IVANE has been running very well recently; with a win over 2m4f at Southwell back in March, he has since run on four different occasions, placing in all of those runs. He placed at Fontwell and Bangor in April and at Worcester in May before having a little break to freshen him up before he went on to hit the crossbar at Worcester just a few days ago. His first run of the season came just 4 days ago, but that should pose no issues for him, as he is a consistent type and ran in quick succession back in April. It looks as if connections have found him a good opportunity to get off the mark again here, and he can do just that in this race. BROKEN ICE bounced back to form when winning narrowly over 3m at Perth last month and the Irish raider is hard to oppose in this company, despite a 5lb rise. Spitalfield has been running well in defeat this summer and is likely to pose the biggest threat to the selection. The rest all have questions to answer, but Paddy De Pole should not be discounted for Paul Nicholls.
Irish raider BROKEN ICE comes into this contest fresh off a handicap hurdle victory at Perth last time out, when he kept on well in the closing stages to snatch the victory in the shadows of the post, landing his 2nd win over hurdles in the process. He does have a 5 lb raise in the weights to deal with in this contest, and this race is a slight step up in quality as he goes from a class 5 race to a class 4, but given the nature of his form at the moment and the fact he got his head in front for the first time in a while last time, he could be hard to stop in this as he bids to make it back-to-back victories for the very first time in his career. Hostile Hotelier is a three-time winner over hurdles and has been running well without winning recently. He was 2nd at this venue back in April off just a 3 lb lower mark; he can back that up here and land another place. And Paddy De Pole has been creeping down the weights with each passing run, which means he could be ready to strike and land a good place before progressing as the season goes on.

This looks to be a decent opportunity for him to get his head back in front again, and running off the same mark here as last time, he can utilise that in this race, a contest that looks slightly easier on paper compared to last time. Dream Jet has been in good form in 2025, a winner at Hexham in May before going on to come 2nd in his next run at Perth. He had his first run in a few months last time out when coming 4th at Market Rasen. He will come on for that run in this and could land 2nd spot before progressing with each passing run under his belt. And Delpotro is fairly lightly raced compared to these; he will have to bounce back from disappointing and pulling up last time, but he was in winning form before that; therefore, he can fill the places in this contest.

This can go the way of EXPRESS RUN, who may find improvement on the back of wind surgery, having run with plenty of credit over further at Kelso in May. Brian Hughes retaining the ride is a plus and he is narrowly preferred to recent Cartmel scorer The Navigator, who won on his last start here back in October. Annie Agnew and Mr Le Philosophe cannot be ruled out either.
A tricky little contest with most of these running ok recently but not winning; it could pay to side with SPOT ON SOPH, who is yet to win in four races in 2024 but has placed on three of those runs. A 3rd place finish at Cartmel in May, she has since gone on to come 2nd when 15/8 favourite at Market Rasen in June before coming 2nd once again at the same venue. She was a slightly disappointing 4th of 8 runners at Worcester last time in late July but has been freshened up for this after a 42-day break off the track. She can bounce back to form in this and land her 5th career victory in the process. Red Force One has a wealth of experience, and Philip Kirby's 10-year-old has still been showing glimpses of form recently, with a victory at Musselburgh in early August on the flat; he reverts back to hurdles here in this contest. He is sure to continue his solid flat form and run well to claim 2nd spot in this race. And The Navigator is another old boy who has been around for a while; a winner at Cartmel off the mark of 95 a few weeks back, he can back that up here with a solid 3rd place effort.

The defection of Elusive Power paves the way for FAIRLAWN SKIPPER to kick on after he made all at Stratford in early July. Shane Fenelon's 5lb claim helps to negate most of the penalty incurred for that success and the progressive son of Schiaparelli could have too many gears for Frammy, despite his sole rival showing the benefit of a wind operation with a respectable second at Worcester.
Just the three runners for this bumper contest; we have three nice-looking prospects in the making going head to head. And ELUSIVE POWER does receive plenty of weight from the other two in this, and the John McConnell runner was a nice enough 2nd on debut at Bangor 62 days ago. She has been given the time to take that run under her belt here, and she is sure to come on plenty for the run. Beaten by 11 lengths that day on debut, she did beat the short-priced favourite home, so it was a solid run given her first day on the racetrack. She can go one better here with the weight she has to carry on her side. Frammy has come on well for his two career runs, a 4th on debut at Bangor, and he then went on to come 2nd of 10 runners at Worcester last time out after the wind operation. Now having his second run since the op, he can come on nicely but might bump into a nice sort. And Fairlawn Skipper was a nice winner at Stratford 65 days ago; he does have a penalty to carry, however, and coming up against two decent-looking rivals, he might have to settle with filling the places here.
