Donald McCain has saddled two of the last three winners of this contest so his Newcastle scorer Lovely Job demands maximum respect, but the 7lb that FILM DIRECTOR receives might prove crucial. He confirmed promise shown in a couple of Irish bumpers when third behind the now 125-rated Our Kaempfer in this sphere at Market Rasen two weeks ago and any improvement on that will make him tough to beat. Red Danaher could prove best of the remainder.

FILM DIRECTOR quickly put his hurdling debut blip behind him when a solid third at Market Rasen 2 weeks ago, and with further improvement highly likely, he looks the pick of the Brian Ellison pair. Lovely Job and Red Danaher are feared most, the latter almost certainly better than his Haydock run back in December suggests.

There certainly didn't appear to be any fluke about Freedom Flying's 100/1 success at Catterick and it would be no surprise to see him follow up, but SNAPPING TURTLE looks a safer option. The ten-year-old has backed up his game Musselburgh success with solid placed efforts at Catterick and Musselburgh and he is almost certain to be in the firing line again. Debt To Society and Expanding Universe add further spice to the race as they switch from the larger obstacles.

SNAPPING TURTLE is in good form, and he gets the nod with a number of his rivals having something to prove. Debt To Society is feared most, with Filbert Fox appealing somewhat for each-way purposes on debut for Joanne Foster after a break.

The one they all have to beat, however, is KING OF GLORY. This is Venetia Williams' first Sedgefield runner for at least five seasons and he wouldn't need to improve much on January's placed efforts at Wincanton and Leicester to open his account.

A three-parts of a length defeat by subsequent winner Floral Spinner three starts ago shows that she is more than capable on her day, and the fitting of first-time cheekpieces could help her recapture that sort of form. Montoya's Son has earned this step up in class with a hat-trick of victories before Christmas, and it would be no surprise if he triumphs again, but ASTIGOS looks potentially a notch above. The form of his neck second at Cheltenham took a big boost when the fourth came out and won a Listed event at Ascot (tenth has also won since) and a repeat performance should see him first past the post. Up And Go is the likely pacesetter and could be dangerous if given too much rope.

Sirpertan is switching to handicap company for the first time and should give Jeremiah McGrath a good spin. Beyondtemptation could have a say as well.
