This is competitive for the grade and several are notable. Twilight Madness is well handicapped based on his peak form. However, he hasn't won on turf since July 2021 and isn't without risk. Merrimack has much more recent winning form to his name and could have a say if he handles the forecast going. However, preference is for proven mudlark SUB THIRTEEN, who runs off 4lb below his last winning mark.
DANGER ALERT is returned to action quickly having raced on Monday and can do better this time. Before his latest fourth, when sent off favourite at Brighton, he showed he had found his level again when second beaten just a length and notably ran a screamer over CD last year when beaten under a length in soft ground off a mark of 76. South Shore Island is a threat on the pick of his summer form and showed a bit more last time after a couple of below par runs and could be worth another chance at the trip after never getting into contention over CD his only try at 5f on penultimate run. He was given a patient ride then but couldn't pick up when the pace lifted but he's got plenty of early speed and if ridden more aggressively from the gates this time should be able to hold his position in the vanguard and prove a force to be reckoned with. Twilight Madness arrives in solid form and is interesting on the forecast soft ground. Simon Hodgson's charge went well his only try on soft ground a few years back when beaten little over a length over 5f at Epsom, closing nicely at the finish. He's entitled to go close given he's found his level again and been given a further chance by the assessor with another pound drop

ESNA, a daughter of top-class sprinter Starman and a half-sister to five winners, posted an encouraging second to a potentially useful prospect when she was introduced over C&D 18 days ago. Midnight Bandit and Shadowmere were less eye-catching on their respective debuts and need to improve. Therefore, Morshdi, a full-brother to Group 2 winner Nakheel, could be a bigger danger.
The bar is set by ESNA and she should be able to raise it beyond the reach of her rivals here. Brian Meehan's filly made a very encouraging debut over CD at the end of last month in soft ground and can go one better this time. There's not a lot to choose between the other two with experience, with Midnight Bandit (third choice) preferred to Shadowmere, but newcomer Morshdi, a Dubawi colt from the Haggas yard, could prove the chief threat

ACCREDIT is probably the safe play and this could be straightforward if he builds on his debut third posted over 7f here last month. A son of Dubawi out of a winning half-sister to Oaks and dual Arc winner Enable, his pedigree is out of the top drawer. Hatteen has a less auspicious profile but could beat Plan C for second.
ACCREDIT made a very promising debut over CD on debut and holds strong claims to open his account on second start on under very simialr conditions. Plan C's form is not far behind that of the selection having stepped up markedly on a modest debut last time to be placed at 66/1 at Kempton last time and should put up a decent fight. Hatteen, a well-bred and reasonably costly Lope De Vega colt from the Balding yard, is worth monitoring in the market but looks to have a fairly tough task on debut

Cicero's Gift hit the crossbar in Group 3 company at Deauville last month and arguably sets the standard on the back of that performance. However, preference is for the unexposed SALLAAL. Roger Varian's colt hand plenty in hand when scoring off a mark of 97 at Hamilton last time and that form suggests that he should be capable of making his mark at this level. Chantilly Lace was also placed in a Group 3 last time but this arguably tougher as she takes on colts/geldings.
The highly tried Chantilly Lace, a fine 5th of 10 in the 1,000 Guineas and then 5th of 11in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, has solid claims eased to Listed level having gone very close in a Group 3 last time on just her fifth start. However, CICERO'S GIFT brings a slighlty higher level of form to the table and arrives in fine fettle after a close-up defeat in a Group 3 in France. Charlie Hills's five year old goes particularly well here, with two of his best career efforts over CD, includung a handicap win off 107 in soft ground and a placed effort in a Group 2 to kick off this campaign, and can gain a first victory of the season. The hugely progressive and smart prospect Sallaal should go well and shouldn't be underestimated raised in class having won a class 2 handicap in smooth fashion off 97 on just his fourth run

Naga is bred to be much better than this opening mark of 70 but a safer option is NIMINY PIMINY, who went some way to atoning for a disappointing handicap debut when returning from a break to go close at Kempton. That form has been franked by horses behind her and Ollie Sangster's filly can go one better. Maeva has been walloped with a 13lb rise for an admittedly bloodless Chelmsford triumph, but still has to be respected.
HACKNEY DIAMONDS is too tempting to resist back over a mile and with plenty of give in the ground. Ian Williams's filly has struggled this season, mostly over trips that have stretched her beyond her stamina limits and on ground much quicker than she's comfortable on, but her mark has tumbled and she's very well-treated if rediscovering levels attained last term. With conditions looking much more to her liking she could raise her game considerably and cause an upset. Lady Mariko is a solid alternative. She went well here over 7f on soft ground last week, staying on late and can go close stepped back up to a mile. The Gosden's Naga is surely capable of better and is worthy of consideration on handicap debut but Maeva looks a bigger threat having demolished the opposition last time with a five length win. Charlie Fellowes's filly should still be very comeptitive up in class off a steep, but fair, rise. Absolute Star should do much better dropped back to a mile but has to prove deep ground suits having gained her sole win on quick conditions. If she does cope she should be in the shake-up

Sir William defeated DANCING TIGER (second) at Windsor before coming up just short in his follow-up bid at Newbury. Although respected, the latter can exact his revenge. Roger Teal's gelding made amends for that earlier defeat when scoring at Goodwood latest and is now 3lb better off with that rival. Advancing might not be far away either and also makes the shortlist.
ATHERSTONE WARRIOR appeals most in a tight affair having been given a chance by the assessor with a further three pound drop. The Moore's gelding kicked off the campaign off a mark of 79, when placed at huge odds, and has run just twice since, not getting the best of trips when 10th of 15 in a class 3 handicap at Goodwood and then stepping up to 1m2f for the first time in late August when ridden a bit too conservatively to get the trip. He finished to good effect then and given a penchant for plenty of juice in the ground a bold bid is anticipated from a mark of 75. Sir William has shown a bit more the last twice since dropped back to 1m2f and is a big threat on ground he should appreciate, while the unexposed Advancing is steadily progressing and could play a big role off a competitive mark if taking to these conditions

Having record an emphatic success at Epsom on her penultimate start, Huggable battled valiantly in defeat when second at Newmarket last time out. Raised a further 3lb in the handicap, Dylan Cunha's filly ought to remain competitive, but it is ITRAAQ who gets the vote. The daughter of Sea The Moon fetched 575,000gns as a yearling but has yet to make inroads into that hefty price tag. However, she's bred to be far better than her opening mark of 67 and, switched to handicaps with a hood now applied, she could progress. Oceans Charm is also noted.
This could go to ITRAAQ who looks to have been given a generous opening mark by the assessor after three solid, if unspectacular, runs. William Haggas's filly is very well bred and there should be plenty to come and it augers well she handled cut on debut over an inadequate mile. Oceans Charm looks to have found her level and proved herself over this trip and with cut when a good second of eight at Ffos Las at the end of last month and, off the same mark, can give another good account. Huggable did well raised to class 5 last time on the back of a class 6 win and should prove very competitive again if coping with the deeper ground than so far tackled
