Potentially some useful types engaged here so MONEY FOR NOTHING only gets a tentative vote. Alan King's charge finished fourth in a hot contest last time, shaping nicely despite drifting in the market, and the four-year-old can put his experience over timber to good use today. Champagne At Tara finished fourth in hot Cheltenham bumper last time, doing best of those ridden patiently, and warrants plenty of respect on his hurdling debut, despite looking as if he will want further in time. Vaniteux represents powerful connections and is considered on both his point-to-point form and pedigree, while Vibrato Valtat also deserves a mention for Paul Nicholls. The four-year-old is, however, beginning to prove a frustrating customer for win purposes.

Watch out for: Champagne At Tara (2)

Champagne At Tara makes obvious appeal after a couple of promising runs in bumpers this autumn, but Vibrato Valtat sets a fairly useful standard and his proven hurdling experience just tips things in his favour. Money For Nothing was fourth in what is shaping up to be a pretty strong race at Wincanton last month and may prove best of the remainder.

Tigresse Bleue will undoubtedly be popular to land the hat-trick and Jonjo O'Neill's rapidly progressive mare is unlikely to be far away despite a 9lb rise for her latest success. The five-year-old might be worth chancing at the prices, however, so a chance is taken on BENEFIQUE ROYALE. Nick Williams's charge has shaped well in novice events this term and, despite racing from 1lb out the handicap, the step up in trip should bring about more improvement. Mrs Peachey is respected under her talented claimer, the form of her latest second having been franked by the winner since, with Scholastica and Top Totti completing the shortlist.

Fiercely competitive stuff with nothing dismissed out of hand. Nicky Henderson's duo, Whisper and Utopie Des Bordes, both warrant respect on their latest efforts although neither look thrown in at the weights. Drum Valley is strongly considered on his Aintree second, especially as the step up in trip will suit, while Act Of Kalanisi returns to his optimum trip, although the seven-year-old isn't the easiest to win with. Bourne shaped last time as though his turn may be near but the unexposed UPSWING gets the nod. Jonjo O'Neill's gelding won comfortably on his seasonal bow at Carlisle before never getting competitive at Cheltenham last time. That race didn't pan out in his favour, however, and he should have more to give at this trip.

Top Tip: Upswing (15)
Watch out for: Drum Valley (6)

Upswing and Whisper are unexposed sorts who arrive here having shaped well at Cheltenham last month. Upswing was behind the Henderson runner there, but didn't get the rub of the green, and is taken to turn the tables. Saphir du Rheu ran well at Newbury a week ago, and will go well if this race doesn't come too soon.

Grandouet didn't jump hurdles with much fluency and his chasing debut left plenty to be desired. Nicky Henderson has openly stated his worries about bringing the six-year-old back here over the larger obstacles and he's opposable at the prices. Taquin Du Seuil got the better of Oscar Whiskey at Cheltenham last time, defying suspicions about his ability to handle a quicker surface, and while A P McCoy suggested he has the speed to become an Arkle horse, perhaps he will be a little tapped for toe today. BALDER SUCCES has made a brilliant start to his chasing career, fencing with aplomb, and can land his first Grade 1 success today. Hinterland is worthy of respect as well.

Watch out for: Taquin Du Seuil (7)

Grandouet was the best of these over timber and should learn from his chasing debut but preference is for Balder Succes, who already looks a natural in this sphere bar his blip at Cheltenham, and his front-running style should be suited to this track. Taquin du Seuil and Hinterland also need considering.

River Maigue, well fancied for the Supreme Novices' at one point last year, warrants respect debuting in handicap company off a mark of 140. Ronaldo Des Mottes has an excellent record fresh, running some fine races around here, but the eight-year-old hasn't had his head in front for nearly four years and is opposable for win purposes. Deep Trouble caught the eye when making up plenty of ground at Cheltenham last time, just bumping into a well treated rival, and shouldn't be far off but preference is for SPECIALAGENT ALFIE. Nick Gifford's charge shaped as though his turn may be near last time and can land this off an attractive looking mark. Calculated Risk completes the shortlist.

Watch out for: Deep Trouble (11)

Plenty of depth to this, with last season's highly-regarded novices River Maigue and Ruacana meeting several with established handicap form. None more so than Deep Trouble, whose latest Cheltenham second will turn out to be extremely strong form, so he can shrug off a 7 lb rise. Urbain de Sivola also has to go on the shortlist.

The loss of Sprinter Sacre is a bitter blow for the race, although the contest does have more appeal from a betting perspective now. Captain Conan is is the sole representative of Nicky Henderson in that one's absence, the six-year-old would hold every chance if building on his excellent novice form. The return to 2m looks a real positive for him, having appeared laboured over longer trips, and while he did beat SIRE DE GRUGY at Cheltenham last year, Gary Moore's gelding is fancied to reverse the form here. The seven-year-old has done nothing but improve since that defeat and his second at Cheltenham last time reads better than the bare form (track doesn't suit him ideally; carried a penalty). He can gain a deserved success at the highest level today. Somersby is respected after scoring on his seasonal return, with the defeat of Cue Card looking more impressive in light of that one's latest triumph in the Betfair Chase. He was getting lumps of weight that day, however, and his jumping remains a sticking point. The remainder look handicappers hoping to grab a slice of the prize money with Oiseau de Nuit likely to fare best of that bunch.

Watch out for: Captain Conan (1)

In the absence of Sprinter Sacre this can go to Sire de Grugy who lost little caste in defeat at Cheltenham last time and has confirmed himself a high-class chaser in his own right. Captain Conan is a more than capable substitute for his absent stablemate and rates the main threat ahead of Haldon Gold Cup winner Somersby.
